Aluakluak elders of Yirol West embrace preparation for Sudan election

By Manyang Mayom

August 9, 2009 (KHARTOUM) – Over 83 sub-clans representatives of
Aluakluak Payam of Yirol West County of Lakes state gathered at the
payam premises to hold a meeting aiming to win in the upcoming general
election in 2010.

The meeting was composed of paramount chiefs and sub-chiefs in the
areas of Alualuak particularly; among the chiefs present were
paramount chiefs of Apar, Aciek, Bok and Kuac sub-section chiefs, as
well as ex-chiefs and the community of Aluakluak payam.

Aluakluak sons and daughters resident in Rumbek Central County, Yirol
East County, Malou, Agany were informed to link up during the meeting.

Aluakluak payam is located in the western part of Yirol West County on
the line bordering Rumbek East County; its community is comprised of
four sub-clans.

The community and intellectuals began the meeting at 1:00 pm with a
prayer led by Pastor Makuei Beny of the Episcopal Church of Sudan
after which the chairman of the meeting, Mr. Aleth Kon Madet,
explained the agenda to the crowd.

The payam’s elders conversed over distribution of the seats for the
Lakes state parliament and Government of Southern Sudan (GOSS)
parliament in Juba as well as parliamentary seats in the Government of
National Unity (GONU) in Khartoum. The meeting recommended that Yirol
West County be represented in both parliaments without discrimination.

The seats were distributed according to the results of the 2008 census
as follows; Aluakluak and Geer payams are to hold one parliamentary
seat in the state level; Abang payam is to hold one parliamentary seat
in the state; Geng-geng and Yirol town payams will get one
parliamentary seat in the state and Mapuordit plus Anuol payams are to
hold one parliamentary seat in the state.

However, the members who were present during the nomination were at
odds with this decision saying that there is no need for early
nomination because it may create rivalry among the members of the
Payams.

In addition to this deliberation, the Aluakluak Payam elders
encouraged all sons and daughters of Aluakluak Payam to contribute to
the construction of Aluakluak Area Diocese Church. The community has
also been presented with money from the Community Development Fund
(CDF) granted by the Government of Southern Sudan to parliamentary
members representing their communities at the GOSS level.

Finally, Cde Malou Moses Majok contributed 30 pieces of iron sheeting
and a generator to the Aluakluak Youth Centre.

    Dear Yirol people,

you are preparation for election in 2010 that is good, but my question to you people is that have you Yirolist people solve your issue among yourself? have you preparation a violences going on in your areas? Because Yirol District has the worst violences ever in southern Sudan history. is because you people don’t get a long with one another, but that was wrong. you people need to change the way ya behavior. all the elders of Yirol counties need to sit down and make peace among in their commuities and than you people will not worry about insecurity in your villages.
