Murle torment and insurgency in Sudan’s Jonglei
By Peter Ngeth Nhiany
August 13, 2009 — Murle torment and insurgency had been heard and experienced for many years and until now days by the Bor elites. This community is well known for its malevolent and vicious irritating raiding and kidnapping activities around and in Bor County from Chuei Kher to Panom Thon. There had never been a single time Murle launched and attack and didn’t leave a quite number of people dead. How long is this going to continue for?
Is it hard to bring this community to justice in a very diplomatic manner to relief all the victimized communities who are always in worries of Murle attack? I think it is just a matter of an effective, serious, and willing leadership just that simple and Murle community can be brought to know what it’s take to be a peaceful nation or disarmed to shun all sort of raiding activities of other communities trying to make a living. All applicable disarmament and diplomatic approaches and process has to be followed to avoid escalation of the political confrontation of forceful disarment.
Murle community leaders need to be diplomatically advised on how you can make life on your own and avoid disturbing those who work so hard to get all they have for their families and you come and snatched away from them and leave a number of people dead for no good reason. It is not fair and it has to stop by any mean. We should not be killing and creating hardship to ourselves after unanimous peace agreement signed four years ago; it makes no sense to me and to all of us as Southern Sudanese citizens to be in such chaotic momentum when we are suppose to be working to pave our ways toward our country stabilization.
This is very aggravating for this to transpire over and over again and yet none had been done to resolve it so far. Authorities you got to hurry up and save some lives and kidnapping of children; this is not good for either side of both Bor and Murle community to be rampaged with military intervention, but only through cooperative diplomatic measures.
Let’s halt foul play and work on peace and unity. I think this was not an intention and what Dr. John Garang and all Southern Sudan’s freedom fighters fought for; I think you guys all made all the sacrifices for peaceful and united Sudan for freedom of all citizens. Is or if murle community is part of the peace agreement? If they are part of Southern Sudan and they support peace and unity, hence they would rather better reverse their course of unacceptable behavior and think better and sagaciously.
If the murle community leaders can not cooperate with GoSS authorities and officials, therefore they should face either diplomatic intervention or military intervention, I strongly support that they are confronted in a diplomatic way or appropriate justification as accountability for their action; I mean remove all their weapons.
Murle people will never back off if not encounter with disciplinary action to bring them to justice because raiding and kidnapping of kids is part of their life which I think there would be no objection for this accusation on the Murle people. It is not projection or exaggeration of the cause; this is not the first time Murle raiding activities is witnessed; they had been known for doing this for very many years. This is out of control and has to be sequestered.
Murle and Murle community leaders need to understand fully that their behavior is unacceptable and it has zero tolerant at this instant of fragile peace observation. This article is not encouraging or to impose any malicious inhumane intervention on the Murle people either by the Bor Lou Nuer Twice East people or Jonglei to GoSS authorities, but to let the Murle people understand what is meant by living in a peaceful and united surrounding.
When I read the letter written and submitted to the media published by the Murle representative namely: David Guzule… their statements sound like the murle communities want seclusion from Bor or Jonglei State. If that is the case, we are not working for separation if we all want to have free nation. The Murle leaders or representatives were accusing and blaming the governor for all the developed conflict in the region.
Well, as I said early that it is our prime obligation to keep this country in peace and united; Murle community leaders should have stepped up and report to Mr. Governor Kuol Manyang and report any issue they have seen to cause turmoil and instability which could lead people to unexpected war as; part of their responsibility as leaders of distinguishing, and respective Southern Sudan communities. There is no one who can take charge if not we who can take initiative to prevent and serve our own country with sincerity and love. I don’t think it is love when you wage unwanted warring activities on another convulsing community. Do not waits until at the last minute if you see things are falling apart, than you starts to wines and put blames on people for something you should have taken responsibility on.
We all Bor citizen understood very well that there is sadistically group of people for what is happening to the Bor elite and Jonglei State communities instantly, but that is not the case. We need to find the root cause of all these dehumanizing behavior carried out in the region by murle. Find out where the murle militia leader stand on and must be questioned otherwise he will be held accountable for what cause human killing criminal activities in the recovering communities.
There should be no mercy to those who are trying to cause turmoil in our country and especially in Jonglei State. They may not be put to death, but introduce to him some justice which would be good for him and dehorn him. He must be removed from government post if this is government official because his or her intention is to destabilize the government and must be dealt with according to his criminal level.
Southern Sudan had been in war crisis for more than two decades and this was brought to an end four years ago. Who is not happy with the change that happened? We want to live in serenity and tranquility. Sedulously, we need to work in loyalty to our precious country land of the black people which would never be taken away from us. It is our originality and must remain intact; this land is not belonging to just any particular black Southern community, but to all of us in Southern Sudan. It is our prime obligations to keep it peaceful and united.
Our patriotism to South Sudan will promote peace and unity in all South Sudan regions. The peaceful we are, the more united we could be. Can we lead by example and be a role model to the rest of Southern Sudan Citizens? Tribal conflicts and bigots will not help us in any manner to progress in the implementation of the peace agreement and in the development of Sudan inclusively. What are we really thinking? What is stirring your brain that triggers your mind to act in such a criminal way? Please let’s stop this absurd and messy political mind game and build trust in us to be trusted by the world whose eyes is on us
Stand up and stop all tribal torment in the region and make Southern Sudan a safe place to be and a purest river to drink from; let’s be brothers and sisters and sit around the table and eat meal together for the sake of peace and unity for our nation (Southern Sudan). Do not let your mind be bought to destroy your own country and your own people; to cause instability to your country.
You and I know that money is evil; do no let your self be cornered to accept monetary offer to destabilize your own home; it just makes no sense. Something that you do with your hand and your own strength, please be wise and makes good decisions that are going to help you and your fellow citizens. Sapient mean a lot to us and that is what our fallen hero was all about; he had wisdom that is why he brought us to peace with our opposition group. Let’s build a stronger configuration between our communities so that we inherit peace and unity.
If you are belong to any group who support and fund insurgent militias to gain power to do harm to southern Sudanese, you are condemn for your inappropriate and inhumane vicious behavior and need to stop and come back to assist in the process of promoting peace and unity; otherwise you will be secluded in Southern Sudan by hunting you down.
Do not associate yourself with those who are working for disunity, be for unity, peace and freedom and united Southern Sudan. Lay down your arms and start a new way of living for lives sustainability and war is enough. If you think Khartoum will give you better treatment than to have your own liberty and peaceful united South Sudan, hence you are an evil minded citizen. We all know Khartoum is always behind all of these, but Khartoum is still sleeping and will never wind whatsoever. May peace prevail in South Sudan. One nation we trust one God we believe.
