Sudan will continue developing its military: Bashir

August 14, 2009 (KHARTOUM) — The Sudanese president Omer Hassan Al-Bashir today pledged to support efforts by the army to develop its military arsenal particularly through locally manufactured arms.

Bashir_Military-2-2.jpgAl-Bashir made the remarks at the event of celebrating the 55th anniversary of the Sudan Armed Forces where he inaugurated three towers containing offices that provides various services to army veterans and their families including microloans.

The Sudanese president hailed the manufacture of Sudanese-made “planes and weapons”, saying his government would develop these institutions so that they can assemble all the equipment required by the armed forces.

Last month Sudan inaugurated the Safat Aviation Complex, in Khartoum that will carry out the assembling, manufacturing, development and maintenance of aircrafts.

The Sudanese President hailed the “achievements” of the armed forces in recent years.

“The armed forces fought for the sake of peace. Once peace was achieved, the armed forces were the first to accept the peace agreement and celebrate it,” Al-Bashir said.

The Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) signed in 2005 ended over two decades of civil war between north and south Sudan.

The Sudanese defense minister Abdel-Rahim Mohamed Hussein was awarded the medal of military accomplishment by the Sudanese president at the ceremony.

The decree by Bashir said that Hussein had made great contributions to the advancement of the Sudanese army and enhancing the working environment of the military that will make it rank among the top world armies.

Hussein has been widely criticized following the bold attack by the Sudan Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) on the capital last year over the failure of the army to stop advancing rebel columns.

However, the top military figure defended the army’s performance saying foreign powers assisted the rebels as well as outdated weapons system.

This is excellent and another proud achievement of the NCP for the nation at large. At least they also invest in infrastructure, building bridges, rehabilitating railways, constructing highways. The only thing the SPLM has achieved is building a beer factory.

Yes, Sudan is one of the largest countries in the world, bordering about 10 African countries. Some of them since long time adopted unjustified, very aggressive, unfriendly policy towards Sudan. Sometimes militarily interfere to disturb Sudan national security with no fear of retaliation. Sine that is the picture, without a threat to anyone, Sudan needs to upgrade all aspects of the national armed forces to match the international and regional importance of the country.

We are pleased of what we have seen and heard from H. E Mr. President Omar Hassan Ahmed Al-Bahir waiting for much more upgrade of our national armed forces

You have no knowledge about the war fought in the South, SPLA was whopping Terrorist you call army ass. I’m proud of SPLA because it is not easy to attack someone who had dug himself 15 feet into the ground while you are just coming from a plane ground. SPLA army is the bravest army in the world given the condition they were facing; SPLA was faced by multiples front, and they managed to kick their asses all, one with Terrorist in the North, another one with the Nyegat of Riek Machar(the traders), and Matip. Only stupid head like you would not recognized how brave SPLA was, and still is. Basher and his weak army will never intimidate SPLA with this rhetoric threat.
