Southern Sudan needs $47m to cover food gap

August 15, 2009 (KHARTOUM) — Southern Sudan needs some 47 million USD to cover the humanitarian needs in the semi-autonomous region, said a report prepared by a joint assessment mission released on Saturday.

A joint committee of the federal and southern Sudan governments, besides UN officials conducted an assessment in Northern Bahr-el-Ghazal, Jonglei, Eastern Equatoria and Upper Nile to determine how severe the humanitarian crisis might be.

Earlier this week Ms. Lise Grande, the Deputy Resident Humanitarian Coordinator in Southern Sudan said some 40 percent of southern Sudanese are facing “humanitarian perfect storm,” adding that spiralling tribal fighting, massive food cap and budget shortfall are behind this critical situation.

The assessment report pointed out that some areas in southern Sudan suffered from a lack of delivery of humanitarian goods as a result of tribal fighting in three states and the attacks by the Ugandan rebels of the Lord Resistance Army.

Owing to the difficulties facing the river and road transports, the air transport is needed to safely and rapidly deliver humanitarian aid to the affected areas, said the report.

However the airlifting operations will cost some 22 USD million; while the cost can be reduced to only four millions if the humanitarian relief is transported by roads.

The deputy speaker of the federal parliament, Atem Garang, said the total cost of the humanitarian operation amounts 47 million USD; 22 million for the air transport while the remaining 25 million will cover food assistance and healthcare program for the children.

“The Government of National Unity and the Government of Southern Sudan are in a position to provide this amount ($22m) if the donors fail to provide the needed support for the enforcement” of the humanitarian operation said Hassabu Mohammad Abdullah, Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, told the reporters following a meeting to present the finding of the two months survey.

The findings of assessment mission were presented today to donors in a meeting chaired in Juba by the Vice-President of Southern Sudan government Dr. Riek Machar and in presence of the ten governors of southern Sudan states.

The meeting was attended by donors form China, Europe, Gulf Arab states and USA.

Away with your madness, all this 47 billions will go into the pockets of DINKAS DINKAS JUNGLESE AND DIRTIES. Am sick that you always use the name of my people in South for your own richness. This is absolutely stupid, million of US $ are always being donated for building, construction, health, training, development, education and many more but all this turn into negative result. What the hell is wrong with you junglese, do you think that you are wise enough to convince the Western countries each time when you ran out of pocket money? Sudan will break into pieces right from Sudan itself, South and States will never exist whether you like or not. Let seperation come and we South will see our selves. We sing of seperation yet seperation willl never make any difference if the country is always being managed by the wrong people. It is the same that even if we go for seperation still within South, Equatoria will always remain the poorest place on earth. This is why I warn you that whether you like or not South will break right top upto the bottom unless dinkas/junglese are left to rule themselves through their cruel spirit and barbaric culture.

Logic is the chairman and founder of Equatorian Resistant Movement (ERM) after achieving its objectives and goals it will reverse to Sudanese Revolution Movement for Democratic (SRMD).

Another crowning achievement of the serpent SPLM besides the beer factory, begging for money, rampant famines and dining in the most exclusive Nairobi hotels.

Now look at the North, building Aviation complexes, building new railways, highways, bridges, agricultural factories etc

I know who I’m voting for next year!!!!

This is what UN should do to combat men’s made disasters in Sudan, Zimbabwei, Miammar (Burma)and DRC and so forth; “the formation of strong UN Police Force with mandate to hunt down those few men who are making disasters”.

If this is done, NIF weapons will not find their ways out from Khartoum and people will farm and feed themselves as they used to be. Oil revenues will not be used to buy Russian Antonov Bombers, Jet Fighters or Chines Multi-Rocket Launchers, instead those revenues will be used to build roads and import agricultural machenery and Sudan will be world’s main food supplier.

Now people are enjoying more death and hunger than peace. Event UN estimated that more than 2000 have died during four years or since CPA agreement in south Sudan which is equal to 3000 who have died in the war that is going on in Darfur now. I just say, well done to SLM government. Your job has been so good to your nation and keep doing it. Do not forget,We need more beer companies in Warrap state, Upper Nile state,Ganglia state and Equatoria states. But do not deny the right of the people to vote. Election must be done too in 2010 so that citizen chose their leader.
