Fighting erupts in Unity state between rival militias – report

August 18, 2009 (KHARTOUM) — Fighting erupted between two rival militias in southern Sudan unity state on Tuesday, a regional aid official told the AFP.

“Fighting broke out in the early hours,” said Paul Dhel Gum, an official with the Southern Sudan Relief and Rehabilitation Commission run by the autonomous regional government of the south.

“It is still continuing now, and reports from people on the ground say there are between 300 to 350 militiamen involved.”

According to Gum, the fighting took place around Mayom in western part of Unity state.

He further said there were reports that the clashes may have spill over into Gogrial County in neighboring Warrap state.

Another example of how South Sudan will be a failed state post 2011. The SPLM seriously needs to get its act together, better yet it needs to resign and give power to a credible government.

    Dear southerners

I am not happy for the fighting that still going on between the tribelism in Southern Sudan.

We here in Australia we are not happy for what you are doing. If you people are dreaming of fighting why don,t you fight with the northern Sudan.

My dear Southerners we are near to got our freedom in Sudan and were are stilling each other for no reason. You if you just fight because of the cows why you don’t live the cows and fight for the freedom in Sudan.

Your are just like a dog near the born babies.

The people of South Sudan know very well the ones who are violating peace. All these evil attempts by the NIF will fail.

The Goss need to looked into this tribal conflicted so seriously, because we southern Sudanese disturbed to live in peace . During the struggle time there was no conflicted among tribes in the south . Our main enemy was Jalaba (The north Sudan ). But now it far from personal believed, what make southerners turned on each other by killing themselves , while peace is brought to us by our leaders for our sacked .

We south Sudanese deserved to live in peace and not tribal conflicted this is not what we fought for during the struggle, southerners need think and thinks twice, by killing your own brothers and sisters today, what benefit will you get from it? The South Sudanese should always keep in mind that the struggle is not over between north and south Sudan . I think all this tribal conflicts that is going on in the south is engineer by NCP party to destabilized the south Sudan , because they are against break away of southern Sudan to become independent state . The NCP party are using cheap political games on south Sudanese “Divided them, and rule them all”. The Government of South Sudan need to look into all this insecurity going on in the south with full attention .
