The dilemma of South Sudan separation

By Chuol Dugak

August 18, 2009 — One of the nucleus intentions of the south Sudan separatists since 1947 has been South separation. The three key queries about separation are: separation for whom? Separation of what exactly? What kind of separation? Let’s judge them, step by step.

All the times one gets the intuition that south Sudan Separatists are preoccupied with separation for separation’s sake. But I have to remind you that not just separation, but separation for great achievements. We separatists therefore need to hex out the principal objective to be attained by any separation we are talking of. I would state that we need just sufficient separation to achieve South Sudan self determination whereby our security and endurance are guaranteed. Anything less is not enough; anything more would be an extra. South Sudan self determination was the single beneficial objective of Anya-nya I & II separatists.

Separation of Whom?

Some south Sudanese advocated separation of the entire south Sudan from the north, Abyei is not excluded. A separation that would comprise all south Sudan areas. Some separatists don’t mind of those of Blue Nile and other liberated areas to join in. Others want the separation, whatever its shape or form, to be among the Black African tribes where (them) Arab-wannabes are definitely excluded. These dissimilarities need to be systematically discussed and an accord reached on this very important question.

What kind of separation?

On this there are different applications which are yet to be reached. South Sudan’s predicament so far has been in regard to determining the nature and character of the needed separation, but please think the subsequent accounts. This is my appeal to us the young generation of south Sudan. Work for Separation while united with the solid confidence that, “without separation there is no future for south.” That is the bottom line, if we still want to be a people. I rebuff the adoration of the nation state, which we have inherited since the colonial era; the fake nation has been nothing to us but a catastrophe.

We are Africans people therefore, the National Islamic Front (NIF) otherwise known as National Congress Party (NCP) has no legitimate right to make us to be like Egyptians or any other Arab nation by imposing the Islamic and Arab culture on our people. The British left Sudan, leaving it as united country, unfortunately the united Sudan has not been completely successful because the Arabized government has failed to develop the south and other liberated areas and that was the reason why many southerners went to the bush.

On cannot promise you that South Sudan Separation (SSS) will make us rich or end everything; however, it can make it difficult for National Islamic Front (NIF) to humiliate and loot our resources. In addition, it will therefore add the success of the decisions we make and try to execute for our development.

The ultimate of south Sudan separation is premised on the impression that the liberation, development and wealth of people of south Sudan can be accomplished only through the unity, unity among southern Sudanese and not with Arab-wanabe in the north.

There cannot be one south Sudanese that fights against National Congress Party (NCP) and another that tries to make preparations with the NCP/Ingaz, no, we must unite ourselves. Our main objective toward south Sudan separation must be the creation of an economic and political state despite the fact that Khartoum government is trying her very best to make sure that we stay disunited.

The NCP/ingaz of Sudan does not know peace; it only knows hostility, that why the history of Sudan after self-government has been characterized by violent rebellions. So unity of Sudan has never worked and will never work. This so called Sudan Unity was forced on our people during the colonial era by the British.

Salva Kiir and Dr. Riek must stop asking our people why they’re still killing each other in part because such question will not stop them from killing each other. You both got the power in your hands and the decisions are yours.

All you needed to do is order south Sudan people liberation army (SPLA) to carry out the disarmament and end the inter-ethnic violence in southern Sudan that has been organized by the enemies of peace to dissuade southerners from voting for independence.

Sudantribune editorial team need to really raise its standard and accept only quality articles. Any tribalist with access to computer and internet can now submit substandard article that would not even be considered worth reading. This article is clearly in that category.
