SPLM-DC accuses Blue Nile state of arresting its members

August 20, 2009 (KHARTOUM) — Two members of the SPLM-DC party claimed today they had been detained without legal reason during five days in Blue Nile state by the southern Sudan army.

The governor of the south- eastern Sudan state is the deputy SPLM chairman Malik Agar. The state government however is formed by the SPLM and the National Congress Party in accordance of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement.

Lual Choul Dak and Mohamed Alamin Zamzam told reporters yesterday they were arrested in Damazin from 11 to 16 August when they were leaving the office of the governor. They were kept in Al-Nahda security post in Damazin.

The mobilization officers said they were “made to sit down on the ground and were threatened and were uttered some defaming words intended to ignite a cause for a beating or murdering them.”

“They were physiological injured or tortured as the human dignity in them was denied and reduced as far as they were not allowed to go out of the dirty cell for short calls.”

The SPLM-DC had also accused the SPLM of arresting its local leader in Upper Nile but the SPLM denied the charge.

The former foreign minister Dr Lam Akol, founded last June the SPLM-DC after a long silent crisis with his former party, the SPLM. He said he wants to save the SPLM from the “abyss” and said that its leadership are “bankrupt” and “undemocratic”.

The Party had to hold its founding convention in Juba but it decided to organize it in the Friendship Hall, Khartoum from August 31 to September 2.

SPLM-DC accuses Blue Nile state of arresting its members
Another blatant example of the SPLM suppressing political opposition and dissent especially as its sees it adversary as posing a serious and significant threat to its governance.

This is not the way to go although it is typical of this cowardly movement and a serious warning to the people of South Sudan of what will to come post 2011.

This tribalist movement needs to practice what is preaches.

    Mr. Wudutman

Please try to read some articles that reveal move about political party for further clearance. Political pary don’t need to have army, otherwise we have to called that faction.

Political party is always neutral and the national army normally advise to stay away from politics because army is non-partisan sector regardless of the fact that they still vote in general elections just for your information.

    God bless.
