Sudanese Bashir to participate in Africa’ security summit

August 24, 2009 (KHARTOUM) – President Omer Hassan Al-Bashir, will lead the Sudanese delegation to the African Union meeting on the continent’s security challenges, scheduled to take place in Tripoli, Libya, at the end of this month, the official SUNA reported.

Libyan leader Muammar Gadhafi who is the current chairman of African Union (AU), will hold a special summit on peace and security in Africa on August 30-31, 2009 in Tripoli.

Somalia, Darfur and Great Lakes region as well as post-election violence and unconstitutional regime changes in some African nations will be on the agenda of the special summit.

The foreign minister Mr. Deng Alor, will participate in the preparatory meeting of the summit on August 30.

The Director of the AU Department at the foreign ministry, Ambassador Ibrahim Ahmed Abdel-Karim, said the summit would discuss the support to the hybrid peacekeeping mission in Darfur (UNAMID), besides intensifying the cooperation and coordination between the Sudanese government and the AU-UN mission.
