African Union reviews Sudan CPA progress
August 25, 2009 (ADDIS ABABA) — The African Union (AU) peace and security council held a meeting in the Ethiopian capital today to review progress in the 2005 Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) signed between North & South Sudan.
The meeting was attended by delegations from Sudan’s ruling National Congress Party (NCP) and its partner in government of National Unity (GoNU) Sudan People Liberation Movement (SPLM) as well representatives from regional and international organizations.
The Sudanese Undersecretary for foreign affairs Mutrif Sideeg and South Sudan minister for International Cooperation Lieutenant General Obai presented their reports on the CPA implementation.
Ambassador Hassan Adam Omer, a delegation member told Sudan Official news agency (SUNA) said that Sideeg briefed the AU on the steps taken to implement the CPA provisions particularly on the Abyei ruling, upcoming elections and the 2011 self referendum for South Sudan.
According to Omer the Sudanese official asserted that the deliverables of the CPA should be completed by 2011.
SUNA cited the head of the South Sudan delegation as focusing on the issue of development.
The meeting witnessed statements by representatives from the UN Mission in Sudan (UNMIS), AU, Arab League and IGAD.
The AU peace and Security Council is expected to issue a statement on the CPA progress after being briefed by the parties.
Today Reuters quoted the South Sudan International Cooperation minister as saying that the NCP is trying to undermine the CPA and sabotaging the referendum.
“The Government of South Sudan (GOSS) would like to express its deep concern at the danger coming to Sudan as a result of the NCP’s dangerous attempt to sabotage and betray the right of the people of south Sudan to self-determination,” he said at the AU meeting.
“GOSS and south Sudan’s people will not entertain any delay of the referendum … which is a clear violation of the CPA.”
He gave no details, except to say that the “signals” coming from the NCP were that it was trying to renege on the deal.

Advice to this excellent News site,
Please don’t rely on this irresponsible and propaganda making SUNA.
Look for better and credible article sources.
I would like to inform you that after years of research on the news sites in Sudan, SUNA is the leading liar and unpopular website. Simply because all news that come out of it are words of the murderers and terrorists. I couldn’t believe my ear gets development as the most pressing issue for southern Sudan as they claim the SPLM/A member stressed. We have strategic issues which in priority order development might be the 20th. So the report through SUNA is false, frankly speaking.
They are not after facts but their Agenda of genocide.
They are after covering their devilish behaviours and blind folding the Citizen they claim to be leading.
So you better look for better article sources rather than SUNA. They are so many, if you need help i am more than ready to introduce you to thousands of the most credible sites.

GOOD BIEF MESSAGE FROM OUR MINISTER OF(GOSS):
Oyai is a military person. He don’t want beating around the bush. Civilized nations are always addressing their nations for not more than three pages to cover everthing. For me the message is clear and enough. I don’t know what details the reporter is looking for. Khartoum regime is not ready for peaceful referendum and election. That is it. Well done mr. Oyai
