Sudanese president visits Chad to discuss Darfur peace process

KHARTOUM, April 11, 2004 (Sudan Tribune) — Sudanese president Omar al-Beshir, this morning headed for Ndjamena on a one day visit during which he will meet the Chadian president, Idriss Deby, in following up the process of Chadian mediation and procedures which resulted in the signing of the Ndjamena cease-fire agreement between the government and the armed rebels of Darfur.

According to Sudanese radio, he will also brief the Chadian president on the ongoing peace talks between the government and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Naivasha, Kenya, as well as discussing issues related to bilateral cooperation and development of relations between the two countries.

Al-Beshir is accompanied during the visit by Presidential Affairs Minister Major General Al-Tayeb Ibrahim ohammed Khair and Foreign Minister Mustafa Osman Ismail.
