7 people killed in Jonglei’s Twic – officials

August 28, 2009 (BOR TOWN) – A Monday dawn raid in Twic East County left 7 people dead and 4 others injured, area representative says.

The attackers are believed to be raiders from neighboring Lou Nuer ethnic group.

Civil Administrator, Payam leader, is among those injured.

Wernyol state member of parliament Abel Manyuon told the Sudan Tribune that “these are preliminaries” when referring to the casualties of the attack that target Payam’s headquarters.

Earlier this month Lou Nuer had carried out two attacks on Twic East county which a territory of Dinka ethnic group.

On August 10 they killed seven people and injured five other, as five others had been killed on August 1.

Lou Nuer Counties of Ayod, Uror and Nyirol signed a peace accord with Dinka of Greater Bor Counties of Duk and Twic East in May, 2009. But the signed accord remains without effect.
