Ugandan rioters attacks Sudanese after border dispute

September 3, 2009 (KAMPALA) — A land dispute pushed Ugandan residents to target Sudanese national and refugees in the border district of Moyo leading to close the key border post between the two countries.

Soldiers from southern Sudan army, SLPA, reportedly shot in the air to chase Ugandan farmers in Gwere Parish in Lefori from their fields on Tuesday, saying they were on the Sudanese side of the border.

On Wednesday, protesters from Ugandan district Moyo attacked Sudanese national and southern Sudanese refugees in the area forcing closure of Afogi customs Post, a key trade gateway to the Southern Sudan.

Reacting to contain the riot, in a press conference held in Kampala today, Ugandan minister of information, Ms Kabakumba Matsiko, called for calm saying the border row can be resolved diplomatically. She also dismissed reports about the deployment of Ugandan army on the border area.

“I want to assure all Ugandans that Uganda enjoys good relations with Sudan and we shall continue pursuing our policy of good neighborliness. I would like to call upon everybody to remain calm. Any apparent border dispute will be resolved by the government diplomatically,” Ms Kabakumba said.

The Ugandan official also denied reports about the deployment of troops to quell the riots saying “The anti riot only intervened to restore order and calm down the situation.” The armed protesters threatened to cross into Southern Sudan.

Ms Kabakumba also brushed aside reports about the ban of food exportation to southern Sudan due to food gaps in Uganda.

“Where as it is true that there is a shortage of food in some parts of the country and probably the exportation of food could be one of the causes, government is aware of this and is trying to come up with a solution to the food problem in the country,”

Uganda exports corn, grains and coffee through the border post to Sudan. Imports to Southern Sudan from the Kenyan port of Mombasa also pass through Uganda. Sudan is the second leading importer of Ugandan coffee after the European Union.

This is what happens when you an army made of ill disciplined and drunk soldiers whereby utlimatley it’s southerners who pay for their ignorant actions.

If the SPLM can’t contain its soldiers who will it contain South Sudan.

I urgent the government of Uganda and government of south sudan to take caution not to over reacts. South sudan and Uganda have very long term relationship since in 1960, this is not for the first time Uganda and sudan has this relationsship. Both two parties shall work togther to resolve the dispute that interupting both two countries.Government of uganda were really do a lot of things allowing sudanese to settle in the country. This was one of the biggest achievement to the Uganda government. Please my dear fellow sudanese i would like you to remain calm until the dispute should be solve. Let them live where never they want to live we know that those areas like Aru kobobo and many others areas which i didn,t mention they are belong to southerness. This is not the right time to claim those areas we have a rope on our neck. We are still in the darkness let us first get our indenpendent this is we can have a chance of claiming those areas.

During the liberation period, all IGAD countries supported SPLM/A in many way.
But Salva Kiir and his group have not only kill and forgot the Southerners and the people from the marginalized areas, but they have forgot also the very people of the countries that helped them. We hear African fellow are being kill in South because lions are roaring against any person who try to reach them as they enjoy in Juba.

Now, partners (SPLM/NCP) become enemies not partners as stipulated in the CPA. EU, US, IGAD, Southerners and the people from the marginalized areas are becoming the enemies to SPLM/A and GOSS and the price will be paid by the ordinary citizens becuase those lions will disappeared into bushes. But we will hunt them down to those bushes and hold them accountable for sufferings they have caused to our people. Shame on you SPLM to grap the cake all and turned your back against your people and good neighboring countries. Kiir and Pagan must leave now to their villages that fit them.
