Central Equatoria governor visits Washington
September 4, 2009 (WASHINGTON) – The Governor of Central Equatoria State arrived yesterday in Washington where he is expected to meet some officials and lawmakers to exchange view over democratic governance.
Lt. General Clement Wani Konga who is accompanied by four members of the Southern Sudan Legislative Assembly, besides his visit to Washington will pay a visit to Salt Lake City, Utah to attend the Equatoria Sudanese Community Association in the United States of America (ESCA-USA).
Konga, despite the private character of his visit, will meet with some Senators, Congressmen, and some officials in the US Department of State, Bureau of African Affairs.
“The purpose of the visit is to acquaint and familiarize him and the lawmakers accompanying him with election procedures and democratic governance,” as Sudan is preparing to hold its first election since the signing of 2005 peace agreement next April.
The visit is organized by the Equatoria Council of Elders in the Greater Washington, DC Metropolitan Area (ECE-GWMA).
