US committed to creating suitable environment to Sudan’s partners – Gration

September 11, 2009 (JUBA) — The United States Presidential Special envoy to Sudan, General Gration today said US committed to creating suitable environment to the peace partners.

Speaking to Journalists after a meeting with Sudanese First Vice-President and GOSS President, General Salva Mayardit in his office in Juba, Gration said assured President Kiir of US support to his government adding that Washington has a special relationship with GOSS leadership.

He is also reported to have added that Obama administration and America people are fully committed to the CPA. “Americans support to peace loving nations are ever growing and never changing,” he said.

The US presidential envoy to Sudan, who attended talks between NCP and SPLM on referendum and census results, further added the US government is not only interested in creating a suitable environment to the two partners but would push for alternatives to remove any obstacles in the implementation to the CPA.

Gration who has shuttled many trips between USA and Sudan for peace in Darfur and South Sudan said that referendum for the people of Southern Sudan must take place.

“They must express their own free will in fair and credible way and the United States will support the necessary steps for the referendum,” he said.

Gration had a thirty minutes meeting with Gen. Kiir where they discussed many issues relates to the CPA Implementation, the upcoming general elections in the Sudan, Abyei.

Kiir told the press US administration can still play a major role in keeping the peace process in Sudan so that the CPA implementation can proceed properly without being hindered.

“The US Government is among the countries that facilitated the peace process between the SPLM and NCP, and it can still push any of the two partners which are reluctant to implement the CPA,” he said.
