14 abducted children rescued in Jonglei state
By Philip Thon Aleu
September 11, 2009 (BOR) – 14 children abducted over the last few years have been rescued and set to reunite with biological parents in the first successful operation in the history of kidnapping in Jonglei.
The abductors are detained in Pibor town awaiting trial.
13 of the children are from Pochala County and one from Bor. There are four girls and the rest are boys. They were parented in Pibor County by abductors from Murle ethnic community. The salvage of the children comes during Gov. Kuol Manyang Juuk’s visit Pibor town and spent four days there. Thanks to the public security personnel who coordinated with local chiefs to get the children freed.
The Governor engaged in dialogues with the County authorities, elders and youth leaders most of time in Pibor, Sudan Tribune learnt. As Pibor asks state government to help in developmental projects, calls to stop attacking neighboring communities and child abduction were also voiced by state leader though Pibor inhabitants are not the only cause of insecurity in the state.
The Governor’s tour mainly centered on informing areas isolated by lack of roads, from state capital Bor, about the importance of peacefully coexistence with neighbors and was allegedly received.
The children were collected in August, 2009 with the help of a newly employed public officer who is a son of the area. On Friday, a UN helicopter brought them [the children] here where they were received at the airstrip by Commissioner of the Headquarters Mach Malual and Prof. Arop Leek – the Secretary General Jonglei State Council of Ministers. The children then met Gov. Kuol Manyang at his office Friday afternoon before continuing to house clear for them and now awaiting the next journey to parents.
The children appeared to be in good health but in deep thoughts. None of them has been to school for all the time spent in captivity. Child abduction in Jonglei came to international understanding soon after the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) between southern former rebel Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) and Khartoum government but stretches to decades back. Thanks to local media.
Speaking at a public rally here on Tuesday, Gov. Kuol outlined lack of infrastructures, low interaction with neighbors and poor harvest as some of factors compelling most people in Pibor to resort in raiding. Rains have being very poor in south Sudan this year and Pibor is not exceptional, Gov. Kuol says. This adds other worries apart from the fact many people are not known of commonly tilting lands for agricultural crops. Without road linking to Juba, food supply normally from east African Countries by businessmen will never reach there.
Though many promises have been heard from politicians about the road construction linking Pibor with Juba and Bor, the real work is yet to commence.

My Thank gone to the local chief and public officer who has been working hard and allocate the children from abductors.
14 Children are not they only children abducted by Murle Tribes since they have start such business, therefore, all counties commissioners have to consult their local people and files the lists of childrens that have been abducted from his/her county and handed to UN and Governor to help in finding others children.
Pibor public security officer and his local chief have to carry out more investigation from the abductors whether there is a hand out side this , as there has a rumour that some abductor normally buy or change them with Cows from the gangs based in Bor South County. also the government of South Sudan and UN needs to fund this work in order for the security to paid those who tell the truth as their reward and recognition because security work do biberie people to find out the information that they want.

Though look pale, there is no doubt that these faces look beautiful, rich of future admiration on top, they are the future of Sudan and you cannot miss to notice how happy they are and that’s means the society is happy.
In caring societies, all children are loved, protected, nourished and educated so that they can be a responsible generation and be able to handover the same process to the next one.
Thanks God for leading the way for their liberation. Now, the ball is in the hands of parents and all government levels locals and centrals to look after these and those kids as a responsibility of caring for the future just like other caring societies in the world.

These are the skills needed at this time to convince the local people that it is better to live in peace with your neighbours than cause troubles all the time. Human trafficking and abduction of children is not a vaible means of survival. So the Governor has done a super job by helping in the release of those innocent children held by criminals against their will.
