Northern Bahr el-Ghazal Assembly arraigns Speaker for second time

September 13, 2009 (ABYEI) — Northern Bahr el-Ghazal State Legislative Assembly has once again passed vote of no confidence against Speaker of the regional house Mr. Angelo Marach Thiik lats Monday.

Speaking by phone from Aweil, Hon. Majang Ngor Kuany said the Assembly has unanimously again decided to pass a motion of no confidence against the Speaker on eleven counts.

Theses counts are related to mismanagement of the state parliament budget and to not consult with the leadership of the ruling party and act unilaterally as well as working with an international NGO in a clear violation to the state constitution.

Asked why always seeking to remove Mr. Speaker instead of finding a solution to address the whole issue, Kuany said the case does not tolerate another solution but to relieve him.

“For this case, we have called in several well trained fire extinguishers including parliamentary committee from Juba with intention to once and for all solve three years members concerns against Mr. Speaker but never materialized,” he said.

Members try each day to settle the issue but Mr. Speaker on the other hand “tries his best to add more salt into the injuries,” he added.

He went further to say, in October last year; Mr. Speaker was accused of having embezzled 1160 million (One thousand, one hundred and sixty million Sudanese pounds) as members entitlements and is again this year accused of a similar act.

“Why all times and is not learning nor ready to come over to members with genuine reasons so understanding is forged,” he posed.

“Because of these inconsistent acts, state legislators unanimously agreed to move a vote of no confidence against the leadership of the Assembly of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State in the person of the Speaker due to the following serious reasons and charges.”
