Gunmen carjack two humanitarian trucks in South Darfur

September 17, 2009 (KHARTOUM) — Gunmen carjacked two trucks transporting food items near southern Darfur town El Daein, the hybrid peacekeeping mission reported today.

The two trucks on contract to the World Food Programme (WFP) carrying food items from El Obeid to El Daein were carjacked about 80 kilometres from El Daein.

The armed men forced the drivers to divert their course and detained them. However, they managed to contact the owners of the trucks, who alerted the Government of Sudan (GoS) police and Humanitarian Affairs Commission (HAC).

The police and HAC negotiated the release of the drivers but the stolen items were not recovered.

The GoS police and HAC have said they will continue to negotiate for the release of the items.

UNAMID peacekeepers in the area “are monitoring these developments.”

Darfur hybrid mission troops conduct daily patrols in the troubled region including humanitarian escort, and logistics and administration patrols in villages and internally displaced persons (IDP) camps.

You will “continue to negotiate” with some of your own insane morons who decided and calculated to somewhat be rebels in order to thwart the food delivery to the much in need people of Durfur. Shame on you self-proclaimed government of people.
