South Sudan lays stones for teacher training institute in Aweil
September 17, 2009 (JUBA) — The government of Southern Sudan o, Tuesday laid down stones for teachers training institute in Aweil, Northern Bahr el Ghazal State.
The first higher learning institution in the area is described as a significant step in strengthening capacity in the education sector, and now recovering after decades of conflict.
Located in Maper Akot, West of Aweil town, capital of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, in Southern Sudan, The institute will be a centre for building more effective education systems and skills for individuals and institutions.
Witnessing the event, Professor Job Dhoruai, Minister of Education, Science and Technology of the Government of Southern Sudan, said this centre “will greatly supplement the efforts of our other institutions such as the teacher institutes, and will provide much-needed leadership in the education sector.”
The institute will deliver a number of important services, including: In-service training for professionals, Technical support to the ministry of education at all levels and in all educational fields an education information repository, knowledge centre and clearing house.
The minister praised the contributions made by donor countries particularly the Japan for the establishment of this institute which represents “a key, strategic investment in the education sector.”
