Salva Kiir lashes into walkout South Sudan political parties

By James Gatdet Dak

September 30, 2009 (JUBA) – The Chairperson of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM), Salva Kiir Mayardit, during his closing remarks on Wednesday criticized the Southern Sudan political parties that pulled out of the Juba Sudanese political parties conference on Monday describing them as “hyenas in sheep’s skin.”

Six separatist Southern Sudan political parties had pulled out of the ‘All Sudanese Political Parties Conference’ in protest on Monday, accusing the organizers of manipulating the conference in favor of unionists with the aim to hijack the right of self-determination for the people of Southern Sudan.

Among the walked out Southern Sudan political parties included the United Democratic Front (UDF), The South Sudan Democratic Forum (SSDF) and the Union of Sudan African Parties 2 (USAP-2).

In a joint press release they issued shortly after their withdrawal from the conference, the Southern Sudan political parties stated that the manipulations they witnessed in the conference amounted to renegotiation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) and abrogation of the right of self-determination for the people of Southern Sudan.

Kiir who also wears two other hats as the First Vice President of Sudan and President of the semi-autonomous Government of Southern Sudan said these parties were pretending to be representing the aspirations of the people of Southern Sudan while they were the same ones that joined up with the National Congress Party (NCP) fighting against the SPLM in the South during the liberation struggle.

“When the SPLM was fighting with the government in Khartoum, the people who walked out here yesterday were in Khartoum, they were fighting the SPLM,” he told the participants.

He assured that the SPLM would never betray the people of Southern Sudan.

He further explained that it will be the people of Southern Sudan that will determine their future destiny in the referendum vote on self-determination and not the SPLM or its leadership.

“If I want unity of the country and cast my vote in the unity box and you all cast your votes for separation, the South would separate. And if I vote for secession and you vote for unity, the South would not separate from the rest of the country; and so what is the problem; what are we fighting about?” he asked.

He said it was not time yet to campaign for secession or unity, warning the separatist political parties not to mislead or confuse the public.

Before the closing of the four-day Conference the SPLM Secretary General, Pagan Amum, read out the six conference resolutions among which included the democratic transformation, CPA implementation, amendment of laws restricting liberties, and a comprehensive solution to the Darfur conflict.

The Conference set up five committees to follow up the implementation of the resolutions.

They say that they are working for the separation of the South but they receive money and support from the enemies of the South. Let them go to hell.

Ok, assuming that the Southern political parties who walked out of the Opposition Parties Conference in Juba under SPLM leadership were allying with Khartoum when the SPLM/A was fighting the very Khartoum before the CPA was signed; what on earth were those traditional Islamic family dynastic political parties of Northern Sudan inside that conference doing to the SPLM/A and Southerners before the CPA Era? Was not Dr. Hassan El-Turabi the master of Mujahideen who were fighting the SPLM/A? Was not Mr. Sadiq El-Mahadi the master of Paramilitaries who slaughtered Southerners in El Jabelein and El Dhaeen? Was not Mr. El Nugud part of the Communists’ saboteurs who brought to power militarily Mr. late President Jaffar Mohammed Numeiry who signed but abrogated the Addis Ababa Peace agreement? The list of wonders continuous as the SPLM failed leadership wonders never cease …………….

Hello Dr. Salva Kiir! Don’t make me laugh at your selfish and narrow-minded political rhetoric!!!

Why blame the Southern political parties who walked out of the Juba Conference to be collaborators with the so-called Sudanese Arab Islamists in Khartoum while at the same time you are drinking and dinning with the same so-called Islamic Arabists in the form of Dr. Turabi, El-Mahadi and Nugud?

What is the difference between these Arabists you are eating and conspiring with against the CPA now and the Arabists of the National Congress Party of President Al-Bashir who have been sabotaging the full implementation of the CPA while your SPLM behaves defiantly on this very CPA that have been planted by blood of the martyrs and heroes like Dr, Garang?

Look at how you and your SPLM have been deceived in the recommendation and final communiqué of that anti-CPA Juba Opposition Parties Conference by diluting and betraying the right of Southerners for Self-determination with the so-called Confederation for South Sudan instead of Separation of South Sudan!!!!

How may God and my African ancestors, if this is the SPLM whom Southerners have held high on their shoulders since 1983, the liberation struggle has been lost; and the people of Southern Sudan should no longer trust the SPLM failed leadership. They have to start looking for their salvation somewhere else outside the SPLM.

God have mercy on the SPLM and save the South from the betrayers of self-determination and the possibility of total independence!!! I pray with tears!!!!

    Hello Mr. chairman Kiir,

Calm down in front of your new friends, Al-Turabi and Al-Mahdi. It was not necessary to show them that the Southerners are so divided like that with a President who just talks divisive language. These six separatist parties were exercising their democratic right like what the SPLM did in 2008 when it walked out of Khartoum to Juba in protest of the NCP’s manipulations. Their walkout has indirectly helped the conference because it showed the northern political parties that their ill-planed mission was detected by the champions of self-determination.

To simply brush a side their point of view amounts to a high degree of incompetence and lack of strategic thinking to unite the political forces in the south. The SPLM should have made sure that it reached out for a consensus with its twin political parties in the south before it jumps into bed with other historical “hyenas” like Al-Turabi and Al-Mahdi. Well, I don’t know who is the hyena nowadays since the word has been borrowed by any body.

Did I read Mr. chairman saying that there was no need now to talk about separation and unity and that the time was not yet right? Oh, boy, this is a serious result of blackmailing the political parties in the South while we have only too little time left (14 months) to referendum. When is it that our masses must be educated on this important issue that determines their future destiny? This is exactly what the northern opposition groups want from Kiir, blackmailing him into silence on preaching about the need for separation.

This is like the way SPLM is mishandling the issue of elections without nominating the party nominee for presidency, thinking that there is plenty of time to do so. I don’t understand why the SPLM wants to delay the nomination when the time is running out for the nominee to get prepared across this vast country of Sudan while we have only some months left.

SPLM unionists should understand that the separatist political parties are backed by more than 90% of the people and the parliament. Unless Kiir doesn’t read the minds of Southerners, it is dangerous for the SPLM not to focus on uniting the Southern front.

To Kur, Jeremiah, Duot, Albino, and the rest who praised Kiir.

What good point have Mr. Kiir scored here?

I happily accepted only one good point from him, the point where he requested southerners to unite and solve their own problems, what else that made you happy?

In addition to what Mr. James Okuk said, did we fight Omar Bashier family or Arab in general? Is it not Mr. Turabi who brought Omar to power, is he not the one who raised funds in middle east for the recruitement of Majadeen who were our notorious killers in 1980s?

Actually what do Mr. Kiir what to tell us? what is his really message about, unity or separation? When have SPLA trusted Arabs who had just been leveled to have had bribed LAm Akol yesterday?

Do you guys think that if Dr. Garang was a live things were going the way they are going now?

I know all of you are doom failures who normally support blindly what you don’t even know.

Kiir have chosen unity for him to stay in power, yes he has sold our land to the arabs in term of unity to remain in power, we know it very well, but that is his finally failure believe me or not. SPLA fought only for one reason, independence not unity as Kiir want.

Lastly, I know Kiir was frustrated because southerners were able to tell truth in the meeting without fear, that thing had struck him hard with shame. CPA has already brought us together as southerners regardless of where you were before the CPA and I don’t think Kiir would have gone that far to use devisive language like that though he was annoit/ angry. That is not the way good leader or good politician can talk.

Kiir need to know that, even we who were in SPLA till the last day of war are not happy to see Arabs trying to decieve us like that again. This is the time all of us are going to Miss Dr. Garang now.

I pray for the change in Kiir.

    God bless

    Bravo president Kiir!

However, as one of my colleague has put it, me i see no problem with the withdrawal of the southern political parties from conference whether intentional or unintentional, they were also played an important role as pure southern political parties, to counter balance(to please,to calm or undermined ) the withdrawal of the obstacle party NCP.

    SPLM/A oyee!

Two bulls do not leave in the same cowshed. If I were Kiir Mayardit,I would have killed those who went for green pastures during the struggle.Majority of them were supporting the Sudan government as if they were not Southerners.

I would like also to inform those who want to make coup or whatsoever they have decided to do against the government of Southern Sudan to look out otherwise,SPLA is not easy to be defeated in the field.

Dear ‘wene’ Mayardit,You are ones of the ‘thoon ceke guang nhiim’ in the South as well as the Sudan at large.’Neek ke’ but we are there to stand with you please.

What do these parties know about separation? They have never shot a gun at the enemy in their lives to secure Southern Sudan; They have been feasting with Jallabas during and after the war and they are not doing anything to help Southerners only balme, Blame and blame the splm while they are also in GoSS

Sometimes, I wonder why everyone says the failure of GoSS is by SPLM. What of these parties??
