Ugandan security abducts Somali minister in Kampala
October 6, 2009 (KAMPALA) — Ugandan authorities today arrested Somali state minister for defense and held him in secret jail. The move led to believe he had been kidnapped by gunmen.
Minister Yusuf Mohamed Siad was arrested as he walked out of a mosque in Kampala on Tuesday during an unannounced visit to Kampala.
The incident initially raised fears among his family and Somali officials that the state minister, who is a former warlord, had been kidnapped by Islamist insurgents or a foreign intelligence service.
However a military spokesperson told Reuters on Tuesday evening that local security forces had detained him because his visit aroused suspicion.
“It is true. He is in our hands. He came here for unclear reasons and we picked an interest in him. You can’t come here as a high profile person without notice,” said Lieutenant Colonel Felix Kulayigye. He declined to give more details.
Somalia’s ambassador to Kampala, Siid Ahmed, confirmed the arrest saying his government was seeking further details about what had happened.
“We want to know what happened, but it seems to have something to do with legal papers,” Ahmed said.

Foreign Intelligence Services have a huge presence in Kampala, such as Egypt/Arab League, Israel, USA, etc…..But Uganda’s president is an attention-seeking dictator and I never trust anything that comes out of Uganda after they killed John Garang there.
Museveni has a bad combination of Arab money and western money at a go in Uganda. But there is no doubt Somalia is infested by Political Islam and its okay to be careful about their intentions. Otherwise, It is hard to trust him. I think Museveni, Egypt intelligence in Kampala & Salva Kiir need to be investigated in Garang’s death.
