Sudan denies recruiting former US officials as lobbyists

October 6, 2009 (KHARTOUM) – The Sudanese government dismissed as false a Washington Post report published last week describing efforts by Khartoum to recruit former US officials to work as lobbyists to press Washington to lift sanctions and remove Sudan from the list of countries that sponsor terrorism.

The efforts have so far been successful in attracting Robert McFarlane, the former National Security Advisor to President Ronald Reagan, the newspaper reported but in a manner that that would not require disclosure on his part.

Sudan, through an intelligence officer stationed in Ethiopia, managed to secure a contract from Qatar to a firm owned by McFarlane worth $1.3 million in return for his lobbying, the newspaper reported.

However, other former US officials approached including Sudan envoys during George Bush’s administration, John Danforth and Richard Williamson have declined.

But Sudanese presidential adviser Mustafa Ismail denied any such endeavors by his government.

“We should not believe anything mentioned in the Washington Post or any newspaper” Ismail was quoted by Sudan official news agency (SUNA) as saying.

“The press writes so much good and bad info but we should get the correct info from its sources,” he added.

The Sudanese official said that his country’s efforts to mend fences with the US will continue but criticized the slow pace of progress in this regard.

The US has yet to come out with a new strategy in dealing with Sudan promised since Obama took office. However, the US special envoy to Sudan Scott Gration has made public statements favoring soft approach to Khartoum.

You Should Believe in The First Amendment Mr. Ismail!!!
As you said here Mr. Ismail, “We should not believe anything mentioned in the Washington Post or any newspaper”. So, you want us to believe in your newspapers and other Sudanese media vaults that owned by your stupid regime, a fully controlled media say whatever the regime’s is planning to say to these poor people.
We believe in the Washington Post, because it is part of a free country, democratic system and something called “The First Amendment” So, when you have a gut to establish such an environment in that country, you come back and ask us not to believe them.
Listen Mr. Ismail, you know that this is the second attempt by your regime trying to recruit lobbyist to defend your isolated thieves and bunch of killers calling themselves a Government, but all your efforts have failed because of the true people in the USA that tirelessly working day and night to unfold your dirty tricks. Worth to mention too that your efforts in controlling our community organizations will never succeed, because we are aware of that and ready to defeat you again and again.
Too soon you will be history, we are almost ready to make the final move and get all of you before even thinking to escape or flee Khartoum.
Khartoum will be the stage where your victims will be dancing on your dead bodies.

    Enough of this shit guyz,
You all know at first it was Bashir denying arming Janjawid to carry out the brutal war against Darfurians; it is the same Basir who denied supplying the LRA with weapons; the same Bashir denied backing up the Chadian rebels to oust Idris; the Same Bashir denied sponsoring terrorists; the same shit called Bashir is denying arming the Southern militias and you guyz have your noses stuck on the Dinkas, Nuers, Equatorians and the rest of your nonsenses!!!!!!!!
Grow up guyz and watch where the Jallaba is leading this nation lest the Bashir’s make us dig our own graves. The issue is for the sitting head of state and has nothing to do with our Southern politicians whom I believe are working so hard to uplift the political status of this state; please give them chance to redefine our destiny there afterwards we will all have a case to settle with them.
    Thanks fellow patriots,
