Kuol Diem Kuol, SPLA spokesman said doctors suspect it to be Ebola but they wait for the confirmation form medical laboratories where blood samples had been sent for testing.

Speaking to Reuters he admitted they do not know the exact number of the affected population.

The Ebola hemorrhagic fever is a viral hemorrhagic fever. There are four recognized species within the ebolavirus genus, which in turn have number specific strains. The Zaire virus is the type species, which is also the first discovered and the most lethal.

Sudan Ebola virus is the second species of Ebola that emerged simultaneous with the Zaire virus. It was believed to have originated amongst cotton factory workers in Nzara, Sudan, with the first case reported as a worker exposed to a potential natural reservoir.

Scientists tested all animals and insects in response to this; however, none tested positive for the virus. The carrier is still unknown.

The most recent outbreak occurred in May 2004. 20 confirmed cases were reported in Yambio County, Sudan, with five deaths resulting. The average fatality rates for were 54% in 1976, 68% in 1979, and 53% in 2000 and 2001.

Kuol said the mysterious disease was very widespread in the Western Bahr al-Ghazal state.

This is yet another mystry which i believe may not be handled by South Sudan alone because the country does not have the know-how and facilities to treat Ebola. The only option is to urgently appeal to the New York`s world disease control centre to come for rescue. Before this can happen, the population should be cautioned on preventive measures like mode of transmission, symptoms and focal points to report suspected victims. I know that this will require public funds to address it.

Ebola is deadly and should be responded to urgently if we have to save the population of Southern Sudan.

Equatorians has been a clean and better place to live, but the presents of dinkas has turn this land into a breeding ground of many diseases, from animal to human, from dogs to humans, from cattle to human all theie r cattle disease have been brought into this land under the dinkas government who claim that his mongrel can roam free in South. Accepting a dinkas into land is much better to surrender it and leave to them. But we will never let this happen since we have realized how bad their government is supporting them by all means of occupying the ten states. An ugly jungle giraffes to be in my motherland, Oh my God, how we can share a land with barbaric and dirty creatures that have no hygienic.

    Dear Oducko,

Know the difference between disease outbreak and smoking. Celebrate but that’s not the end of SPLA.When H1N1(swine flu) was spotted in the west, people died but they were not regarded as people who died on their own. Let’s challege but sometimes be conciouse of what is natural.Your turn may come but people will not laugh at you. I don’t consider you to be an enemy but change so that you are a rational human being. You are talking of E.Q.I.M but this is happening in Yambio which is the heart of your movement if in case you become successful one day. Nothing is beyond humanity my dear Oducko and that’s why our president is being hunted for the crimes he committed in Darfur. Don’t appreciate bad things that come from nature coz they can befall anyone. My condolences to the families of the deceased and SPLA. May God rest their soles in peace.

Sheeple and others, you all made valid points or urgument, Oduko you are just here thinking we are stupid but you are wrong.

Do you think this disease just emerged out of the blue like malaria or flu and infected the SPLA soldiers? No their is an evil invisible hand behind it, someone has done it to south sudan, i believe it could be someone ( probably a foreign worker) who is close and trusted by southerners but had a hidden mission to infect and cause maximum death and weaken the foundation of the Army and system, but this will fail, we will learn from this and strengthen our capabilities. As you said things like Ebola happen for a reason, i believe the people secretly supporting the LRA might be behind this, they have good relations with aid organizations and other internation organisations so all they need is to call their men/women to carry out what they want, Ebola is not a disease that you get just like that, you have to be infected to get it.

BIG SUSPICION here about this Ebola infecttion, i believe somebody did it, it did not just fly into south sudan, i am not blaming anyone but i am saying we have to be cautious and very alert of any suspicious activity by anyone from now on, not just point finger at one person or in one direction.

But this needs urgent attention because it is highly deadly and could spread fast and cause much damage, the main thing now is to protect the front line workers, that is the president , the vice president, defence minister and his deputies, chiefs of staffs, top commanders, police, head doctors and nurses, then women and children, this people are the backbone of any system, if anything happens to them then we are all doomed.
