Libya and US agree continue cooperation on Darfur conflict resolution
October 8, 2009 (TRIPOLI) — Libya and the United States agreed to continue coordination in their efforts to bring peace in western Sudan troubled region of Darfur.
The US envoy for Sudan Scott Gration discussed Thursday in Tripoli where he arrived from Moscow with the Libyan foreign minister Moussa Kusa the ongoing efforts to reunite Darfur rebels.
Libya succeeded last August to convince five rebel factions from the Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM) to gather in one rebel movement called Sudan’s Liberation Revolutionary Forces (SLRF).
Gration for his part, sponsors a reunification process for dissident faction from the SLM and the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) who are expected to hold their unity meetings in the upcoming weeks.
Gration and Kusa also tackled the relations between Sudan and Chad and agreed to encourage the two countries to end the current tension in bilateral relations. Khartoum and Ndjamena trade accusations of supporting respective rebel groups.
The US envoy said Libya understands deeply what is happening in the region and enjoys prestige and respect among the parties to the conflict in Darfur.
He stressed the importance of continued efforts and initiatives of the Libyan officials with all parties to bring a final peace in the region.
Gration arrived in Tripoli earlier on Thursday from the Russian capital Moscow after attending a consultative meeting on Darfur, attended by a number of officials from five permanent members of the UN Security Council and the European Union.

Yes Gaddafi is a source of problem in Darfur, Sudan and Africa in gerneral. Aweenat triangle area belongs to Darfur can you deny that. what so called the great river, is floowing from Jebal Marra these are geological facts can you deny that. Secondly logically Gartion since he is pissed off with Abdul Wahid he is not suppose even to mention his name in his meetings. if he is a man with brilliant mind he can convince his so called movements to find a leader and a name for themsleves if they have selfconfidence that they will lead people of Darfur and Sudan in general. The same happening in Darfur it was what happened in South Sudan and other margin areas, so we are preaching our people not to repeat the same mistake, which proplongs the suffering of our people.
My dear Tribune we as a people of Margin have nowhere to express ourselves, we are oppressed in our own country, we are not given a chance to decide for ourselves, but chansed like flocks of animals without knowing where they are taking us. So please we appreciate all your efforts but also there are some truth people must know them.
Thanks
