October 8, 2009 (NAGERO) – The Western Equatorial County of Nagero has entered into twenty years contract with business firm hoping to export timber woods to the international market.
In July 2008 the State ministry of Agriculture under the directorate of Forestry, which initiated a timber (railway slippers) project with the Earth Salvation Company to process Mvuba trees at Zamoi Boma in Nagero County.
The Commissioner of Nagero County Mr. Joseph Sabuni said that, “the company will import 5000 timbers in the next one year, and the exercise shall be monitored by the County authority of Nagero and State ministry of Agriculture and Forestry .
The company have to pay 100,000 $ for community development, 75,000$ for Agro forestry development, 20% of profit to be kept chest of Nagero County and 80% for the state and Government of South Sudan and five Scholarships for science Subjects and fields of forestry.
However there is controversy surrounding the soul of the developmental project, communities of Nagero living in Wau and Khartoum have accused the County Commissioner and State Minister of Agriculture of having illegally sold the natural tress and land to “foreign opportunists”. The reneged communities have threatened to burn trucks carrying the timber via Wau, in which they have started by destroying the news reconstructed bridge of Wau.
The communities are asking for greater share and say in the project, as the land and trees belong to the villages.
However, the commissioner has vowed to carry on the project as agreed in the interest of development in Nagero.
The commissioner has blamed the disagreement of Local Communities with the project on the sons and daughters of Nagero living outside the County, who have incited the civilians to react negatively to the project.
He acknowledged that, “the worse critic he faces is complications from politicians who went to brainwash the citizens of Zamoi Boma.
Nagero County is more than 200 miles from Yambio the state Capital of WES, it was decreed as County in 2004 by late Dr. John Garang, as way of taking development to the people.
As a new county from scratch, Nagero faces the challenge of underdevelopment, in an event of the timber project, this will render development and usher hope into the hearts of the marginalized population of Nagero.
Policies that encourage domestic processing and restrictions on both legal and illegal harvesting would work to ensure greater value-added benefits to, and sustainable forest management in Nagero County.

This is a very, very bad Day for Trees in Southern Sudan, a black Day for our environment and devastation for future generations.
As Western World has brought all environmental disasters to Africa, South East Asia and Latin America, the westerners are still eager to finish off all sources of lives in those mentioned Areas.
The Westerners with their evil Gods call Money and World Trade are a inch away from destroying this Planet and the money-minded people in Africa like westerners will finish off the job.
I am not an environmentalist, but I do care about healthy environement. Rain is not pouring in a quantity it used to be in South Sudan and other parts of African Southern Sahara because of environment’s enemies. Rain fall in Africa may be a matter of time to be a thing of the past.
I am not against Western Equatoria business, but they should ask Ma`amar Al-Gaddafi about whereabouts African environment subsidies that EU and USA pledged to pay for Africa as the environment Compensation for Africa and get their shares.
Deforestation is just not good for enviromnment and our rural communities who heavily rely on rain as the only viable source of life. Southerners, please, keep your trees alive.

This is not agood idea. I think we southerners need timber.Therefore, I suggest for the GOSS to buy machineries and take some people for training on how to produce timber’s products from a raw wood. I am sure GOSS is capable of purchasing machineries without doubt. Besides, our nation is a young nation on earth and therefore, we need to learn how to make our own finished products and buy our own finished products than to sell them and buy them later. Let be producers and consumers at the same time than be consumers.

$100,000 for community development,$75,000 for Agro Forestry development will be given by the company to Nazero county. 20% of the proceed will be retained in Nazero County
and 80% will be chanelled to the GOSS.Does this mean the Company is working for free?.Study the Project carefully once you sign the paper that means the agreement is binding and you can do nothing to correct the mistakes that will arise due to the ignorance of dealing with a company that might have been in business for along time and come to cheat on you with petty cash while they will be the one to benefit most.
20 years is along time and it takes more than 20 years for a tree to majure to be cut into timbers for rail slippers.Before you know it the forest will be gone in less than 5years.This $75,000 for Afro forestry development is it a one time commitment or is it going to be on a yearly basis for 20 years?.If that be the case have you already started to plant trees and what is the size of the tree planting crews?.We need development,but it must be carefully planned otherwise that beautiful land with a tropical rain forest will turn into a semi desert if prior planning is not given to the entvironment.
Work out your project carefully and do not be fooled by companies that do not see the future of the community and go away leaving you in a mess, for example they have not even given you how many tonnage of timber they need and so on and so forth.Put environmental issue as number one issue and good luck with your project.
