Plural news and views on Sudan

Kiir must stand to the truth

By Amos C. Ngueny

October 10, 2009 — The recent fabricated news on the death of the President of the Government of Southern Sudan, which later were unfounded, nearly hued this country in the making, and the whole Sudan, in to chaos. Some people received the news and were happy while silent, others were gravely desperate and shouted, and the third group was also desperate but contained its emotion as it doubted the source. It has, therefore, vehemently added to an already known political verity that, Kiir is loved as a leader and a person, and he is also hated as a leader and a person.

The group that enjoyed silent happiness is that of opportunists, who want to capitalize on tragic incidents that befall the people of Southern Sudan. The group was short in the tongues, waiting to sheet tears of deceit, and to lead in a pretentious mourning with people of Southern Sudan. The group that shouted was that of restless and skittish cronies of certain aspiring leaders, who were unable to control predicted happiness from their failed connivation. And the last group is that which wants the people of Southern Sudan to reach its destiny in peace amid their trust in Kiir as a leader and person. There were other more groups.

It is good now that he is alive, but there is need for this to be given weight, and equally be investigated. This is so, given that, even the death of our late leader John Garang started with fabrications, which in all summarized to actual and now believable elimination of the then national figure. Kiir himself must know that, in one way or the other, there are assignation attempts, and probably the time the news broke out was the calculated time of his death, which failed. In the other way, public reaction of the people of southern Sudan was put under test to enable the master minders estimate, and plan fairly for the magnitude of the outcome.

Unlike John Garang, Kiir was known to favor secession in the bush war and is now seen to be alleviated to a choice by Southern Sudanese that favors secession of the region from the Republic of Sudan. This is why the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement comes under fire most often from the National Congress Party, that it must put unity of the country the first priority in the referendum comes 2011. If there is anything that enemies of independent Southern Sudan could make against this choice comes the referendum, it is partly to eliminate whoever they perceive as a stumbling block in deceiving Southerners to sell out their distinct African identity and comprehensive destiny. Aren’t there southerners who want to subscribe to grand deceit of their own people waiting to exercise their choice in an internationally supervised referendum?

However, bearing in mind the essence for maintaining stability in the whole Sudan and specifically Southern Sudan, truth must equally be said, because it is this truth that sets one free. The clash Saturday at Juba University – Khartoum campus – between the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) and its splinter Sudan People’s Liberation Movement for Democratic Change (SPLM-DC) is a testimony that, there is an external lethal need to distort anything SPLM, and an impatient internal need by a clique to get party’s top leadership in the SPLM for prestige in anti – tribal hegemony campaign.

All these are good but only the right of the people must be respected by allowing them to choose their leaders in a peacefully conducive environment; an environment in which leaders do not line up primitively as if they are going for a relief food distribution but rather that one which is based on one’s credibility based on past records. This is why any one who talks of SPLM-DC appears elusive because there is no way an unstable personality could be entrusted with a delicate task of guiding the convoluted destiny of the oppressed however much academically intelligent the personality could be.

The concern here is that, Kiir must not bore our ears as his subjects and compatriots of only pledges with out tangible action. There are many cases the President promised investigations of but they did not yield to the expectations. We know he is one of those leading members in the SPLM, who are committed fully – with out turning back – to the cause of the people of Southern Sudan. Such news, especially in a country like Sudan, is linked to violence in which many people eventually die. If Kiir is not interested in his own life, he must walk these fabrications for the sake of the people of Southern Sudan by finding out the sources and outlets of these unfiltered allegations, and bring those found behind to justice, including the media houses implicated.

The people of Southern Sudan completely do not even see anything in his deputy, and Kiir must therefore, prove himself viable by investigating this insecurity threat that has gone to his own doorsteps, and subject the agents to the due course of law. Anything less than that is an authentication that he can not maintain his own personal security and should not be entrusted with such position that encompasses all rights of Southern Sudanese, and ultimately, he is betraying Southerners and the marginalized people on the trust they bestowed on him that there shall one day be Southern Sudan in which an unnecessary death of a person could not be tolerated. Kiir must stand to the truth with support from Internal Affairs’ Gier Chuang Aluong.

    Ngueny,

Thanks for the article! Kiir will not die miraculously unlike our hero Dr Garang.
He will lead us to our promised land ” independent”.
However, the recent rumuors that he had died should be taken as a warning for a possible plot by our enemy to assassinate him for his support to independent Southsudan.

Some people rush into the conclusion that it was our vice president Dr Riek machar who is behind these rumuors which is untrue and unfounded.
Our vice president is a honest man and he could not wish our president Kiir’s death.

This rumuor should unite us as southerners to face Arabs with our might both materially and intelligently.

Kiir must stand to the truth
    Dear Ngueny

Salva Kirr this man will lead us to hell if he is not force to fix his leadership by his close kins and advisors if he is not willing to listen to other people, he has to smell how things are going in south right now, i am an splm supporter myself but i have to admit things are not going well, any southerner who wants to dispute me is just being naive because things not not really beautiful on the ground in every state in south sudna right now, he does not understand that being a good person has nothing to do with being a leader or president, he is looking at things from an outdated ideaology of this is my men this is my brother lets just take it easy and not worry, but this is not how things work in modern world, because right now we do not know when he is going to reform the government system into a more efficient system capable of rendering services and protecting the civilians and the border of the nation against any type of threat internal or external, he like to point fingers and make accusations alot but he forgets that his accusations only falls in the deef ears of the enemies, so he has to wake up and do something and not hope that if he makes accusations the enemies will listen and stop, He seriously need to listen to the voices of the people and make a quick U-turn in his governing system before it is too late or he will become too deformed to be reformed if he is not careful.

Look at the current wave of insecurity, four years he has failed to bring this people together and resolve misunderstanding between the different southern tribes, look at the corruption cases, even after the commison of anti-corruption was formed not one has been brought to justice for taking government money, look at the level of services, roads, electricity and water in Juba and all over the ten states, what state is the services situation in? so things are not looking good at all, If a democratic election has to be carried out in an independent south sudan next week Kirr would score zero in that election believe me in that.

Why? because many southerners are now starting to doubt his ability to government but not to lead, he can lead well but he cannot govern well, many observers now and also people in south sudan and outside sudan all think the man is not capable as a strong political leader, he is a good person in heart and a tough military commander but he is not good in politics period, Let us junubin be honest with ourselves if we really want to progress.

Salva has to stay untill after CPA and the independence of south sudan but he has to put alot of effort to make chance to peoples life on the ground.

so pleae seperate SPLM/A from its individual leaders, like now the American democratic party has many leaders within like Hillary, Obama, Nancy Pelossi, Howard and others, if one of them cannot deliver the democrats will choose somebody else, because one person cannot say he wants to stay there forever if things are going well or not going well, The same has to happen for SPLM/A, Like now maj Gen Oyai Deng Ajak he quit his strong position as chief of staff of SPLA forces, he quite without any complain or qurell, because he knew he can do another job withint he party while someone else will take his place and do a better job also, so Kirr should vacate his position and move to something else if he cannot deliver, let the SPLM revolutional council meet and nominate a new person And Kirr can serve as defence or chief of general staff, this has to be discuss only within splm/a inner organization, the change has to come from inside not form outside. I do not hate Kirr or dislike him but he is just not fit for that position, he climb into the shoe of Dr John Garang, that shoes is too big for Salva Kirr legs.

SPLM is here to stay but if a leader is not doing well he can be replaced while he can still be a leader in the movement but we cannot afford to keep someone who cannot deliver, the boat will sink with us all.

For example you cannot let a owner of a bus drive that bus if he is not a qualify driver even if that is his bus because is will overturn will everyone and all will be dead int hat bus, A professional driver can be brought to drive while the bus owner can collect tcikets and do something else because the benefits is going to come back to him anyway.

So someone might have fought the war but that does not make him eligible for presidency of a country automatically, because now we have all smelled the consequences of appointing unqualified driver.

    Nyueny,

People of south sudan are tired of Dinka-Bor’s incredibly shameful piece of propaganda to spread Dinka-Bor delusions pessimistically among south sudanese. Philip Thon Aleu, yourself & other self-proclaim Dinka-Bor so-called Intelligence Analysts are polarizing south politics through your politics of death. You are now calling Gier Chuang and Salva Kiir to arm and cold-bloodly eliminate Dr. Machar or paulino Matip or any respected Nuers in the gov’t so that you leadership is not threatened. Do you imagine what the Nuers would do if Gier Chuang & Salva Kiir STUPIDLY carried out this political assassination?

Are you not ashamed of John Garang’s divided & ruled of Nuers in the 80s? John Garang incited William Nyuon Bany(assisted by Keribino & Francis Ngor) against Gajaak Nuers. Garang incited and set John Kulang against William Chuol Deang, he set Gathoth Mai against Gordon Koang Chuol and finally tried to set Dr. Riek against Paulino Matip. All of these was to control the Nuers. Yes, the Nuers are too powerful for him and he needed to tear them apart to rule them. But this is not 1980s my friend.

The Nuers of today are highly sophisticated and well educated. Gathoth Mai would not do what Wiliam Nyuon did and therefore could be used against the Nuers by Salva Kiir. The same with Dr. Marial, John Luk, Taban, Kok Ruei and other Nuers. They would never let Salva Kiir used them against their own people like Garang used some of the Nuers in the 8os.

What I don’t understand is why Dinka-Bors called Dinka-Bhar El Ghazal foolish majority and expect the Dinka-Bhar El Ghazal to believe their lies and crime conspiracies that fit the Greater Nuers against the greater Bhar El Ghazal?

This would prove Dinka-Bhar Ghazal is indeed a foolish majority as Dinka-Bors claim. The Dinka-Bors want to incite Salva Kiir against Dr. Riek ever since John Garang’s death. Dinka-Bors are the one grapping Equatorians lands in the name of Greater Dinkas.

Therefore, Dinka-Bors are messing South sudan up because they polarized its poliitcs. So, Dinka-Bors now needs badly someone like Majier Gai(a high-born among the Dinkas) to take the lead in clearing south sudan of Dinka-Bors messes. Otherwise, South sudan and Dinka-bor land would be a crime scene for unforseable future.

The rumors of Mr. Mayardit was recieved with open hands by Dr. Riek thinking that false Nuer prophet Ngundeng were coming to be true. He was wrong. We still Kiir who stood with SPLM from day-one to day omega.

As the writer rightly put it, Southerners are waiting investigation of this message starting with media houses that aired it.

    Wani, Juba.
