China, Kenya discuss new corridor for southern Sudan oil

October 15, 2009 (NAIROBI) — Kenyan and Chinese government is discussing the construction of a corridor to export southern Sudan production of oil through a new port.

Last year Kenya discussed the $3.5bn project with Qatar in return for a lease on 40,000 hectares of land to grow crops; but the deal was signed between the two countries.

In a statement to the Financial Times, the Kenyan Prime Minister who flew to Beijing on Wednesday said he considers China a better suited to achieve the project which also include the development of a Port in Lamu.

“The Chinese offer the full package,” he said, referring to the combination of financing and technical expertise that state-backed Chinese banks and construction companies have rolled out across Africa.

The land and rail corridor can provide an alternative route for southern Sudan oil which now transported by a pipeline to Port Sudan in north eastern part of the country.

The idea of a pipeline to transport the southern Sudan oil through Kenyan ports had been abandoned because of the quality of heavy crude and the high cost of the project.

Kenya seeking future for Southern Sudan! Brotherhood,or oil Kenya? I’m glad you guys understand what we were fighting for. We will not forget the Kenyan police beating, the looting, and mockery of Southern Sudanese refugees. Finally we understand how to befriend you. It rains oil in Southern Sudan, but not we are African. Arabs are killing us don’t make sense to you. As I type here, my hand bears scares of Kenyan beating! I remember the statement “go back to your country, so black like a charcoal”. I don’t hold grudges against all Kenyan, but I can’t still understand why we have suffer even the house of our brothers! I have forgiven you and I will forget it from now on.

We the people of South Sudan will Support the idea of building new port to export our oil, we don’t wont our oil to be exported through Port Sudan, as we know very well that Northern Arabs has been looting our oil. STOP exporting our oil through North Sudan.

I think that is a good way of getting Chinese to Support South Sudan independent because they will have interest in South Not poor North.

And I was about to think that Chinese are stupid….ah! They know already that South is about part ways with corrupt and inefficient North and the oil will be gone in one short day. Chinese know that working with Kenyans and South is a good bet for its business and will not waste time with genocideers.

In fact, Northern government has been a thorn on the side of China for a long time. It is like having an adopted child that is doing everything wrong even when you tell it to do otherwise. Now, China is beginning to slow ditch this corrupt and hapless regime to fend for itself.

Oil is exclusively in South. China needs it to power the engine of growth and will do all it can to gain access to it.

u r really reasoning wisely like Dinkas, you will see what will happen to Arab, they must be going back to Arab world and the bribed Tribes in the South will remain with some Marks on them that may prevent them to lead South Sudan as Sudan in general.
