October 16, 2009 (KHARTOUM) — Taban Deng Gai, the Governor of the oil rich Unity State today denied any plot against General Paulino Matip Nhial.
The SPLA said Bentinu clashes were an SPLA affair and denied any connection with local politics with the incident.
However, Gen. Paulino Matip accused the SPLA and its commander in chief Salva Kiir Maydrit of plotting against him. He alleged that the attack against his guards was coordinated at the highest level of the Sudan People’s Liberation Army.
Gen. Matip said that President Salva Kiir Mayardit plotted the attack in conjunction with Governor Taban Deng and the SPLA Chief of General Staff Lt-Gen. James Hoth Mai. He said “they coordinated with the governor to execute an attack on my bodyguards in Unity State (Bentiu),” worded written statements received by Sudan Tribune after contacts with his aides last week.
Speaking from Bentiu, capital of Unity State, Governor Gai said there was no intention and there will never be bad intention to plan an action against General Matip because there is no reason that warrants such ill act against a member of the same government.
He said surprised to read accusations attributed to General Matip without clarifications. “I do not agree that these statements were made by him,” he said adding that he hardly understand why there is no statement to refute wrong quotes made by media in regard to these allegations.
The governor reiterated that he was surprised to read from Sudan Tribune allegations that GOSS President General Salva Kiir Mayardit with his Chief of Staff General James Hoth Mai and him (Governor) engineered recent clash between guards.
He continued to say that does not understand why General Matip who is second in command refers to recent clash as attack by SPLA on his forces. “SPLA forces are his forces,” he adds saying it was just an incident between guards.
The governor further added that among the accused, nobody holds any personal grudges against Gen. Matip. “Everybody knows he has very good relationship with GOSS president considering three consecutive promotions he gave him after Juba declaration,” he said.
The governor who was outside the state during the clashes said he had been on an official visit to Europe.
Governor Taban is seen as an influential governor in the semi-autonomous region. His state accounts for an estimated 80 percent of all the oil drilled in southern Sudan, of which a 2% share of revenue is received by state authorities.

He was suspicious because he has Militia mentality.
I supported the goverment of Southern Sudan to take Matip Nhial to school to learnt basic Arab and english so he can have the means of communication with others who doesn,t speak Nuer Dialect.
He must do that if he deserve his position.

I also doubt that the letter was written by Gen. Paulino Matip, and if he did, since he doesn’t speak English, his wordings were distorted or manipulated by his translator who wrote the letter.
However, there is a reason for the people South Sudan and particularly the citizens of Unity state to be suspicious of the unique relationship between President Salva Kiir and Governor Taban Deng Gai, has made Salva Kiir not to listen to the democratic voices of the people of Unity state. They voted out Taban Deng Gai in the famous SPLM elections since 2005. Dr. Joseph Nguen Minytueel, the current GOSS Health minister was voted in. Every body read about it on the news.
Against the SPLM’s policy, Salva Kiir has refused to remove Taban from the post of governorship. What is interesting is that Salva Kiir listens and responds quickly to the democratic voices of the people of Warrap state (his home state), which is fortunately neighboring unity state. He has replaced governors in Warrap three times since 2005, but kept the rejected Taban Deng in his position since that time. This special relationship between President Kiir and Governor Deng, which unfortunately compromises democracy in Unity state needs to be investigated.
Also, how dare could the SPLA forces attack the house of their deputy commander-in-chief unless the orders came from somebody above that deputy commander-in-chief. Salva Kiir should be advised to let go his personal relationship with Taban Deng Gai and act like the President of the South. He should also respect his deputy commander-in-chief and must not allow him to be harrassed by junior officials or officers. This can show to the world the lack of system to be respected in the army.
And most of all, this is potentially very dangerous that can cause a regrettable situation in the South.

I don,t know the reason and I want to know why most of the people from Nuer community are against Taban Deng Gai?Is it because of leadership or oil in Bentieu?
Not only that,they are also against James Hoth Moi,according to my own thinking faculty,majority of them wanted to be like them,but how will it be possible?

Those who fight the proxy war are now nervious because they themselves will be the only ones to face the reality on their own without anyone else if there is to be a war. In fact Governor Taban has now made the truth to be known because Matip cannot refer to the SPLA as something else, while he is part of the same army. It makes no sense.And indeed, general Matip does not need seperate body guards since the SPLA soldiers he leads are there to guard him if there is any reason to guard people at all.It is time for the SPLA to streamline the chain of command to avoid devious thinking that there are those who own soldiers within the SPLA. The SPLA is professional army of South Sudan Republic and must be recognised as such. The time of militias is over.

In the history of South Sudan, no tribes can wait somebody for left over foods like dogs, accept Dinka tribe do such a kind of silly act, because they are slaves of Nuer and other tribes like Greater Equattorians and Murles. I think this damn fool called Dina boy, he is the one whom I met in Juba Hotel waiting for left over foods during my visit. My friends felt sory and I gave him $200 dollars. This is a very good explanation, eventhough if you are lying, which I don’t think so. This is how you can convince and another politician.
I think you are from the Dinka of Bhar El Ghazel Region.
However, the Dinkas of Dinka Boy who support Taban Deng and Hoth Mai who killed a child and a woman, are not really Dinka. They are wild animals mindless.
