SPLM-DC says concerned by growing intimidations in South Sudan
October 17, 2009 (KHARTOUM) – Eng. Charles B. Kisanga, the Secretary General of the SPLM-DC today expressed concern over the growing intimidation and arrest of its members across south Sudan.
Speaking at his office in Arkwit, a Khartoum Suburb, Charles told Sudan Tribune about growing tendency by southern Sudan ruling party to engage in a culture of intimidation and violence, is unacceptable.
“It is regrettable that the ruling southern party (SPLM) cadres can disrupt a press briefing being conducted by people who have the right to hold such briefings,” he said.
He said recent attempts to establish SPLM-DC regional offices in south Sudan have witnessed a growing inclination to try and coerce potential members through violence and other undemocratic means.
“Sadly, in many such instances, there have hardly been many audible voices from senior party authorities of the concerned political party condemning the violence or making clear efforts to restrain their cadres from indulging in it,” said Eng. Charles Kisanga.
“This shows the ruling party in the South spearheads all these intimidations and threats with regular arrest of our supporters in the region, he said adding some of their supporters are being held by southern security elements in Wau and Yambio while wanting to meet state governors.”
The former foreign minister Dr Lam Akol, founded last June the SPLM-DC after a long silent crisis with his former party, the SPLM. He said he wants to save the SPLM from the “abyss” and said that its leadership is “bankrupt” and “undemocratic”.
The SPLM-DC since its inception as dissident party from the SPLM accuses regularly the Southern Sudan ruling party of arresting its membership and obstructing its activities in the ten states of the South and Blue Nile.
However the SPLM and authorities in the semi-autonomous region reject these allegations and accuse the SPLM –DC of being manipulated by the National Congress party to discredit its reputation.
Samuel Deng, senior member of the SPLM in the northern Sector, during a separate interview at its premises Amarat today refuted SPLM-DC claims saying they are allegations without substantial evidence.
He said the role of parties and individuals seeking office is to sell their manifestos and convince the supporters as to why they offer the best alternatives.
“I come from Wau and have never seen members of the so called SPLM-DC being intimidated. Let alone the repeatedly media claimed arrest,” he said.
He said SPLM being the ruling party in the South respects provisions contained in the interim constitution of the Southern Sudan and as stipulated in the CPA. He said freedom of expression is expressly guaranteed as one of the civil and political rights South Sudan.
“Individuals are free to use any medium, including the press, to make known their views on any issues affecting them without undue interference, interruption or disruption by those that may hold contrary,” he adds.
However, he acknowledged existence of rampant tribal mentalities in the region saying tribalism is a cancer that has the potential to divide the nation and cause anarchy and despondency.

Southerners do not have time for this nonsense, as referendum approaches we all have to stand unite and ignore minor disagreements, parties and political activities can be upgraded into any form after the independence, what is the use of political rivalry when both of you are still in the prison of this Arabs, lets forget differences and unite to get independence from this Arabs then people can form new parties and question eachother in a new state not under jalaba like now.
Eng Kisanga son of Yambio, for Gods seek you are a well educated man and hold British engineering degree and British nationality, You cannot understand the jalaba game of divide and rule?
Please leave difference for another time not now.

Please stop your lies Mr. Lam. We know who you are and for that reason, no one needs to intimidate you or your supporters. You are all but a bunch of traitors who have no place in our hearts.

According to CPA, there is nothing called SPLM-DC.
DC was formed by DR Lam Akol as asign of destruction of SPLM through betrayal.
This time,Southerners are to solved their problem with NCP and how about DC where will you go.
My advise to SPLM-DC support is to come back and work with SPLM because they always forgive defectors.
Stop being manipulated by NCP and Southerners will not see you as an enemy.
Thanks

The DC members are agents of the NCP who should be charged with treason for their behavior. They are lucky to have only their propaganda disrupted. They should be hanged.

There is nothing reasonable that I hear from the DC movement, in terms of their goal! Either than “accusations accusation and accusations” It is becoming a publicity stunt. They are trying to get the people of Southern Sudan to look backwards in this critical time. What their say on the referendum issues anyways?

Good job for the Southern Sudan security! This is not a time to have fungust amongst us. Southern Sudan is a land of patriots. SPLM-DC! What change? Only SPLM is an agent of change, if agent of change can be change itselt, then it is consumed in the process and the status quo would come back to its original state. So change is Lam Akol and his Associate advocating?

For those of you who are still primitives and do not know how the politic work; you are barking to yourselves like mad dogs. Even some of you proved their primitivity by asking silly questions (Where will you go?). Is SPLM -DC has no supporters like you who support SPLM? if it require physical to establish democracy in south as we did to north? we can do it too in south. You are thinking that when south become independent you can harm, kill someone you do not like or be still doing what is going on in south now!! no law,no security for civilians, but looting and you are the owner at where position you are working in.Everyone has his own law for example when they burned mouths of boy in Lake state tow months ago. That is what you want south to be? Remember that you are going to be living with deference societies who know rule of living. You have to put style of living you have in bush away before claiming of leading differences societies.
God bless nations of south.

The SPLM-DC is not out there for tarnishing the image of the SPLM as an objective because this is not mentioned in the SPLM-DC Manifesto and Basic Rules, instead, the SPLM-DC is working hardly to rescue the SPLM from leadership collapse and turning Southern Sudan into a hell of tribalism, corruption, insecurity and incompetency.
The NCP discovered that the SPLM was just like a big fish without teeth that had scared a crocodile for nothing. They discovered that the SPLM has scarcity of intellectuals and savvy politicians who could hold the abundance NCP foxy cadres at horns in the politics of CPA implementation with the devils that dwell in its details. They discovered that the SPLM has been helped from outside by foreign political and diplomatic mercenaries, especially from USA. So the NCP savvy politicians got it well that when the SPLM mediocres are locked up in close doors without help from outside, they will get confused and cheated quickly.
This is what has been happening for the past four years of the CPA implementation. See how H.E. Salva Kiir resorted to avoid presidency meetings in Khartoum because he finds himself confused and cheated every time. The 2008 Census is the best case in point here. But thank God for maturity of Dr. Riek Machar and other very few best ones within who know to face the NCP cadres courageously.
But the painful part of this all is how the SPLM leaders resorted to heavy alcohol drinking when, in fact, their minds and bodies were needed fresh and normal to face the tricks of the NCP leaders. They run to Juba and travel abroad every time, pretending to be working for the good of the people, when in actual fact, they were pursuing their private businesses and escaping the hard responsibilities that need night wakefulness and hard work in Khartoum. They rarely sit down to think and strategize except when they are emotionally moved by acts and policies of the NCP. The best thing they run to do very fast is uttering conflicting media statements and ineffective threats. But after this, nothing good comes out and they have to wait for the NCP cadres to give them another clever dose for dull reaction.
These are the SPLM weakneses the SPLM-DC want to correct. The inteelectuals who have founded the SPLM-DC have tried to reform the SPLM from within but they were expelled and distanced from SPLM decision-Making offices. Now, it is their last resort to try the needed change from without in collaboration with other Southern political parties. What the NCP and other traditional Northern political parties fear about the South is not really the SPLM, but the people and other politcal parties of South Sudan. Otherwsie, the NCP could have kicked to grave the SPLM long ago.
