Governor pledges to support peaceful settlement to tribal fights in Warrap

October 18, 2009 (KHARTOUM) — The Governor of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, General Paul Malong Awan Anei, pledged to support peaceful settlement to rampant tribal fights in Warrap state.

Warrap women delegation comprising over 100 members arrived to Aweil to take part in the celebration of the appointment of Mrs. Josephine Moses Lado as Deputy Governor of Northern Bahr El Ghazal State. Mrs. Achol Chier Rehan, the current the State Advisor for Gender and Human Rights, led the delegation.

Addressing hundreds of women leaders from Warrap State led by state government advisor on gender and human rights, former Gogrial west county commissioner, Ms. Achol Chier Rehan, he said will fully support peaceful settlement of the sectional fight among communities in greater Warrap saying these two states exists by names but are one and same.

He told the visiting women delegation that he would do everything possible at his capacity to stem out tribal conflict in the state.

While keeping the women ears and mouths opened and laughing expressing happiness for such commitment to solve centuries tribal conflict in the state, the governor said he, together with his counterpart, the warrap State governor, Tor Deng Mawien, with undoubted and readily support from General Salva Kiir Mayardit, the president of the government of Southern Sudan, will go extra miles to ensure that peace and stability returns to Greater Warrap.

The governor explained why he pledged support to bring peaceful settlement to Warrap State’s tribal conflicts because, peace, stability, lack of viable development among others heads objectives of the two decades of liberation struggle.

“Therefore, it is upon us, the incumbent leaders to ensure that speedy development in terms of physical infrastructure and human resources in the other marginalized communities in Sudan are prioritized,” he remarks.

He also acknowledged women supports and contributions they made during North-South civil war saying Southern Women both in and outside government held towns equally participated in the war. They were among the profound moral boasters toward war efforts hence kept social fabric intact during hard days of the war.

Because of this participation, the governor said, SPLM resolved to empower women by granting the equal opportunities with men in all sectors of government and privates.

Accepting women proposal to celebrate International Women’s Day, he donated 50, 000 Sudanese pounds for organization of the event scheduled to take place at Aweil town, the state capital of Northern Bahr el Ghazal, on March 8th 2010.

On the appointment of a female as a deputy governor, the governor explained that Josephine Lado Moses, whose appointment sparked lots of resentments from members of her constituency, was based on merits and consistent records of hard work seen by most community leaders in the state.

“Because of having seen no deviations in all her activities full of none other than sincerity and ability for leadership position, my government was convinced beyond any reasonable doubts that she would be a worth member of my cabinet,” he emphasized.

He also reaffirmed President Kiir’s support for women saying his request to appoint new deputy governor as women did not take him long.

“It took President Kiir short time to appoint deputy governor,” he adds saying this shows his commitment to advance women equality for better prosperity, he said.

The governor is also reported to have taken women delegation to many places showing them achievements of his administration in one year. The achievements including new buildings of which his office consisting 15 other small offices tops all the finished new buildings.
