SPLM walks out of the National Assembly sittings

October 19, 2009 (KHARTOUM) – In a bid to put pressure on its peace partner to vote outstanding bills, the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) has withdrawn today form the federal parliament for a week.
The head of the SPLM parliamentary bloc at the National Assembly, Yasir Arman, told reporters surrounded by the members of his group at the parliament that they want to see a parliamentary schedule for the remaining laws.
Arman further said the current draft of security law enables the security apparatus to arrest, search and detain, adding all these are against the constitution.
He further added that if the National Congress Party does not show progress on the disputed issues, the SPLM would boycott the parliamentary session which will continue until November 30.
The NCP asserts that Sudan National Intelligence and Security Services (NISS) should have more powers, such as arrest and confiscation, than simply gathering information; something the SPLM says is contrary to the 2005 Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA). Mohamed Atta the new head of the service in a public relations meeting with the press yesterday said the body need such power to face the different threats the country is facing.
Atem Garang, the Deputy National Assembly Speaker on SPLM ticket, today told reporters in Khartoum that a number of political parties led by SPLM, walked out the national assembly sittings to put more pressure on the NCP reach consensus on pending key issues in the deal.
On Wednesday 14, SPLM parliamentarians at the national assembly sent out messages asking their supporters to go on peaceful demonstrations all over the country.
In an interview with deputy speaker Atem Garang, he said, demonstrations were to be organized by our supporters to support a memo we presented to the Speaker of National Assembly here in Khartoum on Monday.
“This memo contains our demands to table and prioritize discussions on referendum on self determination for the people of Southern Sudan, Security laws, popular consultation for the people of South Blue Nile, Nuba Mountains and referendum for Abyei.
“In the light of these items, we made our position clear and this is why we kept ourselves away from attending current session,” he said adding NCP has shown no interest in addressing our demands.
The head of the NCP block Ghazi Salah Al-Deen underlined what he called the contradiction in the SPLM behavior saying they call for speedy review of the draft bills while they impede the parliamentary activities.
He further said they would engage talks with the SPLM in order to invite it to reconsider its decision.

This party (SPLM), the ruling party for the Government of South Sudan (GOSS), the party whose armed wing, the SPLA,sided with Dinka against Shilluk, Nuer, Murle, Mundari and other Southerners, killing them with impunity, the party who denied freedom of assembly to other small democratic parties in Southern Sudan such as SPLM-DC and others, the party whose armed wing,the SPLA, insurgencing itself and crushing fences and houses with women and children inside (recent Bentiu incident).
With all the above, The SPLM/SPLA ,with its current incompetent leadership, will never look serious to anybody in the world who know them.

War of negotiation is getting hoter and tougher, can you imagine, it was yesterday agreed upon by second vice president Mr. Mohamhed Tah, and VP.Dr.Riek Machar ( Goss)that the implementation of such legislations must take place as soon as the parliament site and indorse such bills to the law.
Look now the NCP has again played down the progress of the implementation of those bills to the law.
I stand firm supporting the MPs representing South Sudan sector in that walk out.
Ladies and gentlement Khartoum has gone beyond playing with CPA, turn all your eyes and watch them carefully.This is the result of Almirgin reaction, he echoes the voice to all voltures that were observing and did not know how to react against the outcomes of Tah and Machar meeting resolution.Be inform as Southerners, stand firm together, stand by and see what is going to happen in the next coming months.

Dinkas re not against any body, so let give them opportunity to struggle for our self Determination but we Nuer we must not be able to bring good things before Arab b,se we reason shallowly and you ve seen it in 1997 agreement(Nuer agreement) promises were not fullfiled.
Let humble our selves and our Dr Riek will be given chance after Referendum but those of KIM DENG,GATWECH,and others would let Dinkas to spoil our future as Nuer community.

Hi our guys,we have right to boycott the meeting because Northerners are oppressing us alot and for that,we have to be very keen in all corners that they wanted to trick us.
Not only in separation but also in election too.
We have to look for those who are experts to do this registeratoin very well.
It should be done what happen in census of last year my fellowers Sudanese.
We have right to say we don,t want election becuase we have to know s where our borders are and what population are we than we should comes to go for election.

Rambang stop talking about corruption because corruption came to southern sudan throught nuer people. In 1980’s uper nile was the first state which open its doors to corruption through Daniel Kot Methew who was a geverner at that time. He gave most of ministry post to neur people and employed uneducated peolpe who can’t speak or write neither engligh or arabic.
He didn’t stop there, but went on giving nuer people who came fresh from villeges a militry ranks most in wildlife and police forces, what do you call that a good leadership? and what about (kotat) which used to be distributed in uper nile coordination office in khartoum to individuels (Nuer)instead of sending it to people who realy needed, people who were dying of hanger in uper nile state’s towns and villeges like Malakal, Bor, Nasir and so on before SPLA captured those towns,what do you call that wasn’t it corruption?
My friend if you want me to open file about what was going on in that coordination office between 1983 – 1994 some people here will not believe it. By the way since Numire divided south sudan to three states in 1983′ uper nile state never had a Dinka or Murle neither Anyuak governer although in this state there is Murle, Anyuak and dinka Bor Pariang, Paweny, Luach, Ngok, Dongjol, Ager, Nyiel and Abailang. So do you know where did corruption came from?
