13 children rescued in South Sudan’s Jonglei

By Philip Thon Aleu

October 24, 2009 (BOR) – Thirteen children are due to reunite with their parents after reaching Bor Thursday from Pibor County, Jonglei state. Some abductors are being held in Pibor prison.

Collective efforts of local government authorities and traditional leaders have contributed to what Jonglei government describes as “positive development.” A recorded child rescue was in September, 2009 and the time State Gov. Kuol Manyang Juuk visited Pibor when 13 were recovered with help of local people.

Of 13 children, 9 are from Gambela region in Ethiopia and the rest are Southern Sudanese.

The latest contingent of children to be freed follows efforts of County Commissioner Akot Maze Adikir and local chiefs. Child abduction is common in Jonglei and started decades ago. Once abducted, the children are sold with cattle as a unit of exchange.

Of the 13 children that reached Bor, the capital of Jonglei state Thursday October 22, two children are from Dinka Bor of Jonglei, seven Toposa and four Lokoya children from Equatoria states. The children were flown to Bor with the help of UNMIS plane. After officially handed over to state government represented by Gov. Kuol Manyang Juuk, Deputy Gov. Hussien Mar, Commissioner of headquarters Mac Malual and several MPs, the children were taken to a nearly accommodation where other former captives are dwell.

And for the first time since abducted several months or years ago there is certainty of safety and freedom without any fear of captivity. The children appear healthy but with tense moods.

In a meeting attended by State and UN agencies to determine reunion of children with biological parents held today Friday UNMIS agreed to airlift the children to Eastern Equatoria and Central Equatoria States immediately. 2 children from Jie – an ethnic group in Pibor County and part of the group that reached on Thursday have also reunited with their parents this week.

“This is a positive development,” Deputy Gov. Mar responded when asked whether the latest rescue could change the trend of child abduction in Jonglei state. Abductors, allegedly Murle tribesmen in Pibor, will be brought to justice, State Attorney James Mayen Oka told a meeting today.

However, there are difficulties to arrest kidnappers but 4 of are already sentenced in Pibor and will be transferred to Bor to serve their term of jail.

With arms littering at the hands of civilians, only well coordinated rescue of children is possible. However, the latest strategy of using sons of the area to persuade their kin mates seem to have worked in smoothing relations with government and traditional authorities, analysts say.

Murle are famous for the abduction of children.
The abductors must be investidated why the abduct kids.
I feel pity for those tribes still holding the primitive mindset of abduction, raiding and stealings.
Please take your children to schools so they will not be like you idiots.
    Thanks

I congratulate greatly the SPLM for this great work and I hope it continues to prosper and promote stability for all Southern people. However I also urge the Southern officials to take regard for the prisoner’s human rights and show mercy.

This is great news to hear about Jonglei today that the abducted children are rescued in Pibor and will be reunited soon with their beloved parents as others were already.

I thinks the Jonglei state government have finally come to stands its ground to protect Southern Sudanese kids and Jonglei childern from thugs who abducted childern and kills their mothers and fathers. There should not be a compromise at the beginning anyway, since it is just the few who want to hostage the entire region of Southern Sudan with their evilness.

The next, and is the remaining issue to answered by the Jonglei and GoSS government is the militia in Low area. This notorious militia of Lou Nuer need the SPLA/M army to plugged its ears to whatever saga will be saying and deal with them in anyway they deserved merely to protected the innocent civilians these militia thugs are keeping hostage.

Nothing is really so great than the relieving to hear from our respected hero and an SPLM defend militia, Nhial Deng Nhial, to disclosed there are pro-Arab militia in Southern Sudan and are supported by the Arabs in Northern. What left now is to confronted these thugs militiamen who are always killing civilians in Torkech, Pibor, Duk and Pachalla with all our mighty means to tell them SPLA army fearing any militia in Southern Sudan leaves alone in Lou area. I thinks and I know this message will works great with Lou Nuer Militia and as well will it send good signal to NCP of El Bashir in Khartoum.

It actually wrong for revolutionary movement as SPLM/A to let itself be dupitize by two pro-Arab Nuer militia; Riek Machar as an SPLM dupity party chairman and GoSS vice president, and Matip Nhial as the dupity chief of staff of an SPLA army. Hell this is wrong but it can be fix as it is known now.

The SPLA army and its party need to keep his eyes open and very closely on these two pro-Arab militia thugs Riek machar and Matip Nhial who are dupiting our SPLM/A in Juba. Nothing needed to be taken in granted or to forge with these shitty militiamen eventhough they are yet snooping in the party.

    Hi cousins

This is good move and again that is what I have been singing many many times that the best tool of discouraging those abductors is by creating conducive environment among the communities and between each community and the state government because the old tactic of employing force against each other can not work, now look how peaceful and easy is it to deal with all these mess after government stop bullying people. I think Mr. Kuol is coming closer to the point.

Anyway the faces of those children look exactly just like the faces Philiph Thon had already reported last month. Then, why is the same story is repeated every month? who want to know this again and again. Mr. Philip, I know you are little getting better in reporting and don’t hesitate to put clearly that, the abduction started decades ago when Dinka Bor used to smuggled kids for the exchange in Murle land because now we want to transform ourselves and will only take place when we become clean by confessing all our previous ugly secrets.

Lastly, the government need to advice those Dinka Bor who used to smuggled their own kids to Murle for the exchange of cattle to stop those filthy activities and we are going to ensure that Murle should not attempt to abduct or exchange any child with cattle again. Those who need children must go through legal adoption.

That is my advise for Bor and Murle criminals.

    God bless

Change cowboy with Dr. Riak or Kuol, my candidates.

    Dinka boy or Dinka cow

The idiot normally pronounce the word idiot without knowing that he is calling himself repeatedly.

After all, no wonder, your comments are always over-taken by bankruptancy of meaning and wisdom, you are just tribalistic, shallow-minded, hooligan of all time, and people who are born by living creatures should not spare little time to answer your erratic lunacy.

What I know so far is that, Bor and Murle will be friends again and I still wonder where will those few tribal hearted crooks will go when that time is up for grasp.

If You want the facts, please go and ask your uncle to answer you the reason why he started selling children to Murle in first place if the conduct was the worst thing senario? You can not initiate the game and condemn it strongly at the end, unless you are shameless skeleton who is dead a live. Mind you we Murle don’t want just to embrass Dinka Bor because it was not all Bor who sold kids to Murle, and someone smart enough in your community must also recognize that all Murle don’t abduct kids, it is an act of few criminals just as it happen on the other side of the coin.

If you had really went to school and recieved quality education, you should know more than just being tribal attorney with limited understand about the world around you.

You continue with your duties and the end will define it all.

    God bless

    Mr. Logic

I recieved your advice warmly and honorably. The reason as to why I included Kuol in the list of my candidates is because Mr. Kuol used to be very sencere man during the SPLA war, but I could recently see that those poor-mind Bor guys like the snail named himself Dinka Boy want to vernomize Kuol’s brain little bit, but I still believe that, if Kuol could work with people like me, Gatwech, and you he will change otherwise he will be easily removed.

But anyway boy, you are telling only the truth.

Thank you for your smart analysis.

    God bless

    Dear barking dogs from Equatoria:

I was about to hang myself when a certain young boy from Equatorai told me how you were treated by Arabs in Khartoum and Juba,Sorry to mention, but facts should be said

“Beautiful ladies used to be brought to army barrack in order to be fucked by Arabs” Jada said. When I heard that I immediately stopped talking as if electricity current ran through my body.”They were doing the same to men” Jada added.I also heard from Pitia,he is my school mate here in Juba University,he told me that one of his tribesmen was fucked thoroughly by those of Peace keeping forces, and the contract was agreed to be $1,000 unfortunately the man breached the contract.Sorry to mention his name,Lado started crying as if that was the end of everything.Good enough,a certain brave Dinka who was just passing by heard a noise and he immediately rushed there as it is a culture in Dinka community not to put deaf ears to any noise.Lado was given his money and he was warned seriously by some Dinkas who were around by then.”That is why Arabs don,t respect us.” One Equatorians was just talking and crying at the same time.

Back to the point,I personally agreed with Logic boy because we have chased their masters away from them and we are not doing what they were doing to them.

It is not a culture in Dinka’s land to fuck somebody’s daughter unless you have married her. Therefore,it is too bad for a real real man to be fucked unless he is dead.

Shame on Equatorians in Equatoria,we shall never ever allow your masters to come back to Southern Sudan.

    Mr. Dhal

You are very dull and the comment you met is not democratic or nationalist. All tribes died in South North war and to crambled it into two tribes achievement is just serious stupidity.

Do those of James Wani Igga, Joseph Udho, Oyai deng Ajak, Ngachigak, Joseph Kuo, Malik Agar, Galario Modi, Kennedy Gain, and the list continue Nuer or Dinka tell me Mr. or were Nuer and Dinka bribe those leaders to help them with bravery? what do you really mean? I myself fought and carried SPLA gun for years, was I Nuer or Dinka, mind you body, running here and there will not help your long doom ambition. I don’t care either Nuer or Dinka because if we decided to divide this country into 100 territories I think non of you will step my land and that is fact without doubt and you know it good.

So stop your stupid slogan or face it soon and learn through result.

    God bless

Now factionism is the best for south Sudan.
