Warrap vows to respect functions of three pillars of the government

October 25, 2009 (KHARTOUM) — The Governor Warrap State, Tor Deng Mawien today vowed to respect functions of three organs of the government in his state saying this promotes peace and unity in the area.

Briefing a delegation of parliamentarians on visit from Juba, in the state house, the governor assured law makers that he would strictly observe separation of powers among the three arms of Government, which according to him, are a way of ensuring true freedom and independence of each institution.

“I will make sure that my government respects and functions in collaboration with other organs of the state,” he said reiterating that his administration remains committed to maintaining the independence of the Executive, Legislature and Judiciary to strengthen the provision of checks and balances as enshrined in the three interim constitution of central government in Khartoum, regional government in Juba and that of Warrap state.

Tor who resigned from his position as Deputy Speaker on NCP ticket before crossing to SPLM which appointed him as governor, added that “respecting functions of each institution as spelled out clearly in the constitution promotes peace and unity in any given region or country.”

“I am pleased to inform you (the visiting legislators) that the state Legislative Assembly, which is currently engaged on pressing issues, will soon conclude its deliberations on elections and other important bills to pave way for the next stage that may include preparation for upcoming Southern referendum,” he commented.

He also told visiting law makers that his government has recorded some achievements particularly in addressing socio-economic challenges.

Speaking to the visiting members he pointed out that his administration, particularly in the past year, recorded strong recovery and growth in the strategic sectors of agriculture, infrastructure transport and communications.

“My administration is investing significant resources in improving infrastructure like schools, health facilities, roads and expansion of electricity supply,” he emphasized.

He said the impact of such investment has to bear fruit, especially in urban areas where poverty has significantly increased in recent years.

However, he said his administration is facing many challenges including ways of how to build on the economic gains.
