South Sudan asks churches to assist in peace building
October 25, 2009 (KHARTOUM) — The Government of Southern Sudan has asked churches to assist regional administration in preaching peace building, reconciliation initiatives and development related messages.
They churches as in the past like during war should continue their preaching peace and reconciliation initiatives particularly in tribal stricken areas across the regions, said GOSS minister of information and broadcasting, Paul Mayom.
The churches should also be involved in helping government to address social and economic challenges the region is facing, he adds.
He stated that the church should try to get involved in sectors like agriculture, education and health adding that the involvement of the church in economic sectors would help alleviate and reduce poverty in the region.
The minister who seemed to have recognized importance of churches said his Government values the work of missionaries in the region.
Most of the religious leaders greatly contributed to the liberation struggle of the South Sudan and to the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement, he revealed.
He also reiterated that they had a lot of influence in the liberation struggle and therefore thinks should play significance role in settling tribal feud over borders and cattle.
Asked what else he thinks churches can offer to his government and citizens, he said particularly missionaries in South Sudan are not only known for their pastoral work but also for preaching for peace and tranquility in the country.
He said some of the churches like Roman Catholic Church, Episcopal, Seven Days among others have been working closely with Government in addressing the many social and economic challenges.
“Churches are agents of development and peace building in any country,” he adds saying his government greatly seeks their involvement in settling local disputes.

Please do not mix things up. I think you are Jesuit or you just do not know what is going on in this world right now. Please if you got church ,Mosques or God as you name it,go with it, but do not support them to come to civilians. civilians have right to chose. Again I think you do not read revolution in Bible. God would have name us Paul,John,Emanuel,Peter,Joseph and so on if she/he think we are sinners and wanted to be change.Iam 100% sure that names you southern got,is the way of slavery.
