Ethiopia, Sudan neighboring regions agreed new cooperation

October 26, 2009 (GONDAR, Ethiopia) – Neighboring regions of Sudan and Ethiopia have agreed to jointly work together on various Areas, the official Ethiopian news agency reported.

The agreement was reached after Sudanese officials drawn from two states on Sunday held joint consultation with Officials of North Gondar Zone of Amhara State in Gondar town on issues related to development and security.

Speaking at the meeting, North Gondar Zone Chief, Agegnehu Teshager said the meeting would help enhance good neighborhood and people to people relations of Ethiopia and Sudan.

The two parties have reached consensus to control crime, contraband trade and related issues, he said.

They have also agreed to further enhance cooperation in agricultural development along the border areas.

He said the meeting will help enhance mutual concerns of the two countries.

Chief of Guresha Zone of the Sudan, Mohamed Al-Mahi on his part said his administration is committed to further enhance the existing good relations between the two countries.

District chiefs and security officials of the two parties took part in the discussion.

The Sudanese delegation has visited investment activities in Gondar town as well as historical and tourist attractions.

The next consultative meeting would be held in Sudan.
