Kiir says chances of united Sudan are slim

October 27, 2009 (KHARTOUM) — General Salva Kiir Mayardit, First Vice President of the Republic of Sudan and President of the semi autonomous region of Southern Sudan, said chances of united Sudan are slim and next to impossibility.

However, he was quick to say there are hopes and possibilities that Sudan may remain united given its history full of diversities and intricacies if the ruling national congress party commits to peaceful implementation of the Naivasha peace accord.

Kiir, who was talking to reporters after a meeting on Monday 26, with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, to discuss Sudan’s conflicts, said South Sudan will be forced to succeed from the north in an upcoming referendum because North has intentionally failed to make unity unattractive.

Referring to the famous quote of late Dr.John Garang De Mabior, he said, in his culture and particularly in his home village, no man even if he is the ugliest one loves and prefers marrying an ugly woman.

Therefore, it is the north to try by all means possible win back or restore trust and confidence lost in them by selling better relations to southern brothers and sisters, he said.

He said Khartoum government is never showing any sign of making unity an attractive option for Christian and animist inhabiting south of the country.

Each time South tries seeking better relationship the north, its does the opposite particularly those that reminds people of the past and hard relationships the two regions had undergone, he commented.

Kiir was referring to Malakal and Abyei incidents considered to have been instigated and sponsored by the ruling national congress party through the use of proxy war with their allies such as militias.

Sudan’s longest two-decade civil war ended in a 2005 peace agreement that included a provision for a 2011 referendum for the southerners to choose if they wanted to remain in the country.

Kiir also accused the government of failing to implement fully the peace agreement including the demarcation of the oil-rich border region between the north and the south.

The peace deal put an end to the 21-year-old civil war between north and ex-rebels in the south that left 2 million people dead and 4 million displaced.

But the deal is plagued by distrust between the two sides and has repeatedly threatened to unravel, bringing to the two sides to the brink of war.

In the agreement, Sudan is to conduct posted parliamentary and presidential elections in April 2010 as the first national elections that include South Sudan in four decades as well as the referendum.

These elections are seen as crucial for keeping peace but disputes in recent past have arisen between the two parties over referendum law and census results, which are the basis for drawing election constituencies. They also disagree over the rules for carrying out the referendum.

In Monday’s statement Kiir refused to postpone both the election and the referendum.

That is what we want to hear from you Mr. President. Also, you need to reign on tribalism and corruption that marred your government in Juba. Moreover, you ought to stop manslaughtering of civil populations by all means.

Let the tribalists listen to the leaders when they talk about the problems of our country, if your heart cannot record what the message talk about then get pen and keep it in front of your dairy make sure the leaders are not talking about Dinka, Nuer, Shiluk and ecetra.
There are at the mean time burning issues that need Southern unity badly, few of us who are able to educate the world in this website must better sending good image to the media rather than sending messages that fragmenting the nation of the South.
Our dear leaders, are leaders that talk about problems that we had endured during all 21 years of war, these are our dear leaders.
Few people who are interesting in the tribal debates, my dear that is a bad business I can tell you.
Listen care fully our leaders have lost energy because since 1983 until now, they never rest.
Think about hard job they do and forget about tribalism.Give them hand by appreciating their work, this will be the support we can give when we are writing to the media, tribal messages are totally damaging.
    Thanks,

No one is begging Southerners to remain united. Only the NCP is, but the rest of the Sudanese population doesn’t care.

    Thank Kiir

Now you have at least said something that send me and others to smile, this days I have competely withdrawn my vote from you steming back to the day of the meeting between SPLM and the notorious arab opposition party leaders who just trying to decieve our course by pretending to create fox-hyena-like friendship style. That was not SPLM ground at all and indeed you were going to lose in big margin. Mr. Kiir better to remember that some of us who were in the bushe like you, are facing only one straight direction and no reverse at whatsover.

Also fulfil the promises you made to Murle community in April 2007 for you to get your support back otherwise you will get zero vote there.

    God bless

Apartheid won’t end, the only way is secession of the South
Sudan will be better off divided into two than being united because no matter how you see it, the differences between the North and the South in term of culture, language, ethnicity, economy and people are too different to be merged into some mosoaic or melting pot, whichever way you want to see it. Let’s have two countries living peacefully as neighbours. Some people have argued that letting the south become independent will lead to the break up of the country because other groups will also demand to be a country e.g Darfur.

The fact is that Darfurians are closer to Arabs culturally because they share the same religion.Islam is pervasive and affects every aspect of the society in which it is practiced so there is some homogeneity in Muslim communities. Darfurians can overthrow the Khartoum government but they don’t necessary need to secede.

Your undignified attack against the Naath nation only creates hatred in our homeland- I am 20 years old, but I have an adequate understanding of the potential dislocations in supporting tribal attacks.

One day, when you grow a tad bit more emotionally and intellectually….you will understand every word of the above.

    Until then…. wallow in ignorance.

Does NCP now regret that they have wasted alot of time trying to be cunning and play around with the peace agreement? now that only 14 month left for the referendum does NCP wish it act differently in the interests of the Unity they desperately want? 14 month is not enough to turn things around and make unity attractive, NCP have wasted too much time playing around now this is the results.

Shame to those who wish to be politian and yet they are not. I never found anyone talk of development just tribalism against their fellow tribes. Let us see if Kiir will united the South. Assure you he will never, believe me. He himself talking of election but he is not yet declare himself as the candidate in the Sudan, just prepare for south which is not his level. if he like south than let him declare is ready for south not Sudan.

I wish to pass my sincere greeting to you all and appreciate those who recommend on the building the South. for get about our basic tribes.

    Hey President Kiir Miyardit,

If you really know that unification between Southern and Northern Sudan will be impossible, then why are you always rely behind Omar Bashir by preventing him from being arrested by the ICC or by preventing his Government Administration from being sanctioned by the USA? Why are you always sent letters warning other country from getting hold of Omar Bashir? It is obvious from the very beginning that the Northern Sudanese Government are not in favor of the peace acceleration within Sudan. “That is definite and realistic to the point that no one from Southern Sudanese people can support the sense of Unity from Omar Bashir Administration”.

The Northern Sudanese Government have attempted in many ways to derail the peace in Sudan and that is why they have waged the war on May 14, 2008 in Abyei town of Dinka Jok. This happened after when CPA was signed by the Late DR John Garang and Omar Bashir. Omar Bashir himself know that there is a CPA in Sudan, but why did he order his troops in order to fight in Abyei town? Simply, Omar Bashir don’t wants peace at all. So for you President Kiir Miyardit, you needs to distant yourself away whenever you hear any allegations being counted on Omar Bashir. Use a right politic in way that your Southern Sudanese people will be happy with you.

Remember that, the first important person in the Country is a President. In other word, this does not mean that if a president is important, then he can do whatever he thought important by himself. That is wrong. What is mean that the president is the important person is to think deeply for the solution that will stop inconveniences which will exaggerate his civilians in his Administration as he is a president and know how he is going to solves these inconveniences. Not just to increase allegations, but to clear ruins.

“Every doctor demand to rejuvenate the life of the patients, but not to impose or incommode the patient life into danger”. Pleae safe the life of your Southern Sudanese people.

This is not a point of argument because everybody is aware of the Arabs and their behaviours in relation to South Sudan. Let me ask the commentators on this web to explain to me really the meaning of attacking each tribe verbally without analysing the topic being discussed. As I know, we are all Southerners and very unique and different from the Arabs by color, religion, culture and ideology. To me, there is no need of argument as that and this is the right but lets’ unite as ‘Black Africans’ if ‘South Sudanese’ is not enough to unite us under one umbrella.

What I would put across is that let everyone be a guide to our destiny and lobby hard to bring those redicules, hardlines and moderates South Sudanese in the North to back our cause like Uncle Abel Alier, Uncle Bona Malual, Ali Fartak Tamam, Riak Gai Kok, Lam Akol and redicules Like Tanginya, Chiebitek and etc. If we all agreed that these people should be our focus, Southern Sudan with or without referendum can still separate as an independent country.

Therefore, here with our tribal minded people who always think of depending their tribemen who committed atrocities and can not hesitate to apologise for their tribemen wrong doing. We are doomed to fail unless we pull our effort more collectively.

    Gatwech,

Riek was heading the SPLM delegates to Khartoum and this doesn’t mean he was the one negotiating the Referendum bill, officials like Micheal Makuei Lueth negotiated it.

You claimed that Pagan Amum doesn’t have skills to negotiate.Have you been really in New Sudan(liberated areas)or you just came from Khartoum recently? Only fools and Nyagats idiots doesn’t know the role played by Pagan Amum during Naivasha Peace talks.

Pagan signed Power sharing protocol among six protocols of CPA, can you please tell me what did Riek Machar sign in CPA, Nothing! Loook, Riek Machar is now pushing his ugliest ass toward CPA negotiations when he doesn’t have knowledge about implementation modalities.

CPA, a document without Nyagat’s signature can not be used for cheap political popularity combined with betrayal.

Down with Riek Machar, down with all traitors of our people, the marginalize group

SPLM is watching closely at Nyagats!

I appreciate you honesty and being brave enough to speak out about the real problems of Sudan and its poor stupid leaders in the north, But don’t you think that too much time has already been lost and wasted by the NCP when they tried to think they can cheat the peace and cheat the southerners from achieving their rights and freedom? NCP has failed in its duty to address the real problem facing Sudan with honesty, they have been playing around with implementing the CPA in letter, but now they realize that time has past and it is too late, because you cannot prepare yourself for exams at the last minutes if you want to pass, you have to work early but they have lost the chance for a united Sudan. Every body now know that unity has not reach the impossible junction, it is not possible in the next 14 month.

I think that it is unlikely that Southern Sudan will be united with the rest of Sudan because secession and division in nations is a device that the nations of Germany and Japan are using worldwide. The same thing has been occurring in countries around the world, including places such as Indonesia and Yugoslavia, not just Sudan.

To all apparent this is being backed by the governments of Germany and Japan who are doing a lot of investing in these countries and gaining control of their economic resources.

I think it is a way for the Germany and Japanese governments to destroy other countries worldwide and take them over, which is a continuation of their World War Two goals.

    Tony Komayiit:

You protest against my reference to the Nuer tribe as the Naath. Do you also reject our tribe’s reference to itself as the Muonyjang?

Your entire rambling marks tremendous stupidity, that doesn’t deserve going over with in circular exchanges. How about actually addressing what was requested of you?.

You’ve completely convinced me that you are either unable or unwilling to get it.

But that’s your loss. You want to be the mere tool I use to teach those able and willing to learn? So be it.

My message is simple…Peace. However, if you wish to be an apparatus of hatred, do so with HONOUR. Clearly display your true identity.

We as citizens of this great, but troubled Nation in waiting, have to ask ourselves questions, such as: do want our past tribal conflicts to define our future separate State?

Or will we treat each other individually, Collectively (at least on this board with respect?) Forgive the fact that this post is interrogatory, but the status quo, the way in which we dialogue is nothing short of repugnant to patriots and civil minded individuals alike!

I sincerely hope that those belligerent-like, obnoxious members of our society represent a small minority. So let’s start anew and let those profane, hate filled individuals, with their tempestuous remarks take their proper place as pariahs, rather than as determinants.
