Upper Nile pledges support to electoral committee
November 2, 2009 (MALAKAL) -The Upper Nile State government today pledged full support to electoral committee saying security of the team will be fully granted and allowed to execute their activities hundred percent without impediments.
Speaking to reporters at the state Secretariat General, Thon Mum Kejok, the state official spokesperson and the minister of information and communications argued citizens to turn up in to register for election.
“This is the very time we have been patiently waiting to come so each and every one of exercise his/her civil right to vote in favor or against,” he said.
Sudan’s national election commission says voters registration centers are opened on Sunday across the country ahead of the country’s first multi-party elections in 24 years.
In 2011 the Southern Sudan will also vote to determine whether to remain within the current Sudan or to establish an independent country in the currently described as southern Sudan.
“It is yours and mind which will determine the future of this country and particularly where we want to belong,” Kejok; adding stressing citizens’ votes will determine fate of the semi-autonomous region.
He said institutions such as schools, churches, mosques, hospitals and cattle camps needs to be given high attention for coverage saying these are areas which accommodates huge population.
Therefore, as media, you should adequately ensure constant coverage without excuses so public is enlightened, he stressed. He also added that the comprehensive peace agreement signed by the SPLM and NCP should not be left to them alone to implement without public support, its needs efforts of all men and women, boys and girls, young and big because it belongs to all Sudanese people.
“Each and every one of us has a role to play in the implementation process of the deal according to its provisions which include election and referendum,” he said.
