Ethiopian PM, visiting Presidential envoy discuss peace in Sudan

November 5, 2009 (ADDIS ABABA) — Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi, today discussed with the Sudanese Presidential Adviser Ghazi Salah Al-Deen, bilateral relation and ongoing efforts to end Darfur conflict and achieve peace in the country.

On October 15 Ghazi was in Asmara to brief the Eritrean President on the implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement and government efforts to bring peace in Darfur region as well as bilateral ties between the two neighbour.

The official SUNA said Thursday meeting dealt with bilateral relations between the two countries and the significant role played by the Sudan and Ethiopia to provide the optimal model of regional integration.

The two countries are implementing joint road and power projects and developing a series of economic projects in the border regions.

Ghazi who is in charge with Darfur dossier also discussed a report on peace and justice in Darfur presented by a panel led by former South African President Thabo Mbeki in Abuja.

Meles took part in the special AU Peace and Security Council (PSC) meeting held in the Nigerian capital last week.

The Council endorsed the AUPD report and established an implementation mechanism to its recommendation headed by former South African president Thabo Mbeki who was also the chair of the AUPD.

The Sudanese official also briefed the Ethiopian PM on the enforcement of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement and the situation in Darfur from his part, Zenawi.
