Detention of UDP leader heightens tension in Northern Bahr el Ghazal

November 6, 2009 (MALAKAL) — The recent arrest of the United Democratic Party leader, Tong Lual Ayat, a native of the area, has heightened tension in the state as many accuse state government of undermining voices wanting to know cause of his arrest.

Tong, who is currently moved out of a private house where he had been extrajudicially arrested, by state security apparatus, was yesterday moved to unknown place unconfirmed reports say a military prison at Wunyiik, North of Aweil town.

His wife said neighbors had seen the politician rushed into a tinted security vehicle.
“I had not been aware until yesterday when I was surprisingly told by neighbors” about the transfer, she said.

“I also went to governor office but was turned away from the gate with food I brought to my husband;” she added.

She further expressed fears that he is live might be in danger.

The UDP leader was arrested, on Thursday 29 October 2009, soon after a meeting with State governor, General Paul Malong Awan Anei. He had been blamed for launching his political campaign without prior consultations with the state authorities.

I do not have problem with your political activities, but it would have been more convenient if you did come with legal document showing official registration of your party from Juba, said governor Malong during a meeting with him in Aweil.

Quoting SPLM vision and mission constituting three main core values of equality, human rights and rule of law and Democracy including unity of diversity, SPLA Major General, Chol Ayat, from Juba, said has not been able to understand cause of the arrest.

He also said had discussed the arrest with the governor Malong “as elder and relative to Tong on several occasions but our discussions never produced anything on the issue.”

He further said that the governor used to give detoured explanations, adding that such arrest means to intimate, harass and humiliate the citizens. “It would not convey good message about SPLM as ruling political party in the south,” he stressed.

Congratulation Paul Malong Awan Anei on your historic leadership, your exceptional has left many of us to pound their chests with pride and hope. I wish Salva Kiir woul transfer you to Jonglei State to weed out all the unwanted quislings, who betrayed us big time during the war of libration. This is just the beginning but more need to be done to rid ourselves off all the traitors. May your security apparatus hunt other internet browsers like Big Log Boy and sub-humans called Nuers, wherever they are. I remembered your charismatic leadership in Pakok during dire moment in our history of liberation. Thank you so much comrade.

Some individuals must have to learn how democracy works, rule of laws work, and the freedom to form whatsoever an individual has relatively to his or her political affiliation. Arresting someone based on political differences is not a solution but some sort of political threat and this could be bring fear of unknown within a ruling political Party.

What is the different between Kiir and Omar El-Bashair in their leadership? I do not see different.

What human being do not know is, devil (Satan) has a complaint to God that he/she has been a victim of human being activities all the time even for things that human do for his interests.

This time we know two parties SPLM & NCP.
The others parties have the intention of confusing the citizens of the South. What do mr Tong Lual Ayat want Unity of Separation?.
I thought that if Mr Tong declare himself to compaign for SPLM or NCP. Please clear yourself and no one will arrest himmr Tong.
    Thanks
