Jonglei praises fishing investment

By Philip Thon Aleu

November 12, 2009 (BOR) – Jonglei Gov. Kuol Manyang Juuk welcomes Al
Cardinal fisheries here on Thursday with hopes to employ local people,
explore abundant River Nile waters and export fish to local markets
dominated by foreign imports.

Al Cardinal Fisheries injects 27 Millions Euros into Southern Sudan
Fishing Company Ltd. with Jonglei state’s capital, Bor, as the
headquarters, according to information obtained by Sudan Tribune.
Production capacity, in the first phase, is estimated at 900 MT/PA.

The Al Cardinal top official who visits Bor Thursday, Mr. Ashraf S.
Ahmed Hussein pledges to “share in social” development noting that Bor
will be the company’s largest fishing ground in Africa.

“We will educate [local] people how to fish…get better living,” Mr.
Ahmed responded when asked whether the company may restrict unskilled
indigenous people to casual only. And in 90 days, he says, the fishing
will start.

The company say about 300 or more people will be employed. At the
company’s compound on Makuach road, east Bor town, poles were being
erected for fencing by group of youths. Machineries, fishing boats and
trucks loaded with what the company calls vital equipments for fishing
could be seen all over the scratchy ground – the south Sudan Fishing
Company base where trees are being cleared.

Speaking to reporters after touring the base in Bor, Gov. Kuol Manyang
says “it’s a duty of the government to market resources” and that the
investors will provide lacking “capacity and ability to fish” on large
scale in the semi-autonomous region.

“The coming of this company to Jonglei state will open the way for
foreign investors in Southern Sudan. We import fish as if we don’t
have,” Mr. Manyang responded when asked how the semi-autonomous south
will learn and benefit from Jonglei’s strategy. The state will discuss
shares it can take in the fishing company, Gov. Kuol says.

However, little is expected by local people already discouraged by
empty promises; or by government initiatives falling in a ‘sea of
Southerners’ needs’ “because no change of living standard at the end,”
a pedestrian who identified himself as James Majak commended while
admiring construction at Fisheries base today.

Kuol is back building relationship with arabs, why arabs, we have lots of fishing industries in East Africa right from India ocean, Lake Victoria to Lake Turkana. But why do you prefer arabs? anyway its your attitude since history has a lot. But you must be sure that this 27m Euro should be manage careful with aim of making some difference not individual benefit and registering fake names in pay slip. Good move!!!!!!!!!!!

Actually we neeed Jongolei to be full of any kind of investment because business has no boarders.

Arabs, American, Australian, Japanese, Chinese, Canadians, and so forth are welcome to invest in Jongolei. Since Murle and Dinka Bor, Nuer and others are in growing peace.
