French radio begins broadcasting in South Sudan

November 20, 2009 (PARIS) — Radio France Internationale(RFI) began transmitting in south Sudan on FM, on 90.4. Broadcasting began with programmes in English and in French and broadcasts in Arabic are due to begin at the end of the week.

The move follows a broadcasting agreement with between the French Government owned radio and the Government of Southern Sudan.

RFI’s Khartoum correspondent, Stephane Aubouard, is based in Juba for the launch where he’s leading training workshops for journalists from south Sudan for the next two weeks.

The French ambassador to Sudan, Patrick Nicoloso, was present in Juba on Thursday to open a new embassy office, the radio reported.

All of RFI’s English-language broadcasts will be aired on 90.4 FM in Southern Sudan, starting with the 0400 UTC morning programme, through to the evening programmes at 1600 and 1700 UTC.

Very good move by France, but let them not involve in political and tribal incitement like they did in Ruwanda which lead to the Ruwanda genocide, however France is welcome to improve media and press development.

    Good news but!!

When selecting people who are going to work in that radio, those without teeth should not accept since someone without teeth pronous P as F as the result they confuse people.

It would have been better if GOSS had ask France to train south sudanese journalists then contribute money to build a south sudanese radio station, there was no need to bring a French radio station to come and do the work in our country, will France allow Sudanese to go and do work for them in France?> take what France give you but it was not nessecary at all, some of this ministers are so foolish in thinking and reasoning capacity, they need help.

RFI is well known because they emit in many languages (and local languages). In southern Sudan, there was only one antenna. The studios stay in Paris. (They said: “began TRAMSMITTING in South Soudan”) As it is already in Khartoum for ten years.

I think SOuthern Sudanese should begin broadcasting in their own languages instead of a foreign radio broadcaster whose aim is to repartriate profits to France and spy on how to control mineral wealth in SS. Anyway Radio France iinternational has already paid Kiir and others thier millions at the expense of citizens, however they shoul stat broadcasting in all local languages to facilitate development and Kiir should use the millions of dollars to buy radios and distribute them to the people
