Sudan’s Machar in Unity state to register for 2010 elections

November 29, 2009 (JUBA) – The Government of Southern Sudan’s Vice President, Dr. Riek Machar Teny, arrived in the Unity state’s capital, Bentiu, on Friday to register his name for the upcoming general elections in April 2010.

Speaking by phone from Bentiu on Saturday, Dr. Machar said he had already registered at Bentiu Town One registration center and declared to the press his registration slip number as 02452249.

Addressing the population in Bentiu town, Dr. Machar urged all the citizens who are eligible voters to register for the elections.

He stressed the importance of the elections in the process of democratic transformation in the country, which he said would make it possible for the next various levels of government to be elected ones by the people.

Machar was also expected to travel to Warrap state by Saturday evening for the voter registration campaign in the state.
