Newly appointed Upper Nile state Governor assumes office

November 30, 2009 (JUBA) – The newly appointed Governor of Upper Nile state, Dr. William Othon has officially assumed office today, Monday.

The former governor of Upper Nile state, Major General Gatluak Deng, who refused to step down for the last two weeks after his removal, has finally accepted to handover governorship following the intervention of the Vice President of the Government of Southern Sudan, Dr. Riek Machar Teny.

Dr. Machar earlier over the weekend talked by phone to both President Omar al-Bashir in Khartoum and Maj. Gen. Gatluak Deng in Malakal and convinced them to resolve the matter by handing over office to the new governor through his deputy until the governor avails himself.

President al-Bashir earlier denied having recommended the removal of Maj. Gen. Gatluak to the President of the Government of Southern Sudan.

Gatluak was since two weeks ago removed by a Presidential Decree signed by the President of the Government of Southern Sudan, Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit.

He refused to handover power and continued to chair the state Council of Ministers meetings.

The new governor stayed away from the office for two weeks despite being sworn in by President Salva Kiir in Juba.

It was not clear who in the leadership of the National Congress Party (NCP) recommended to Salva Kiir the removal of Maj. Gen. Gatluak.

According to the CPA arrangements, Upper Nile state governor has always been the nominee of the NCP’s chairman, President Omer al-Bashir.

Both Maj. Gen. Gatluak Deng and Dr. William Othon are members of the NCP.

    Dear readers,

    Thanks God!

Thank you, Dr. Riek Machar for your wise intervention. This tactic was well planned by the NCP to confuse the situation in Upper Nile state so that it could lead to a crisis of power struggle between the Nuer and the Shilluk. They want to split the state between the two politicians.

Salva Kiir didn’t care about the plan because turning the Shilluk against the Nuer would ease the current tensions between the Shilluk and Dinka in Upper Nile. How come he signed the Presidential decree to remove Gatluak if that order did not come from Bashir? And why he keeps quiet for all this time of two weeks without talking to Bashir about it? This is probably a joint conspiracy against Upper Nile by the heads of the two parties (NCP and SPLM). Or was it Ali Osman or Nafie Ali Nafie that gave order to Salva Kiir to remove Gatluak.

God is great. I thank Maj. Gen. Gatluak Deng for his wisdom to accept the advice of Dr. Riek Machar. Let those who want to create chaos between Shilluk and Nuer look for other ways. This issue has been defused and is over!

Congratulation Dr. William for the new position.
Now it’s your time to do something better to the people of Upper Nile and Southern Sudan at large. You are welcome but think about what you can do ‘NCP”.

There a problem in Africa everyone that takes power wanted to die in power let others rule.

    Gatwech:

Dr. John Garang died in July- the ministry of enery & mining was lost in September.

I think history and the chronology of events, stumps your feeble brain, and you simply can’t grasp elementary logic.

Tell me, buffoon, when did you first perceive yourself to be intelligent? What brilliant insight enabled you to come up with such ahistorical assertions?

Must I condescend to you again, and point out your unending stream of debate errors, which appear to be growing more egregious, out of frustration?
