Darfur rebels say five government soldiers killed during attack

December 1, 2009 (LONDON) — Five government soldiers were killed during an attack on rebel positions in Jebel Marrah of central Darfur on Monday, a rebel commander said.

“We repulsed an attack carried out by government troops and their allied militia near Jiba, in Jebal Marrah,” said Haroun Abdel Karim, a commander of the rebel Sudan Liberation Movement led by Abdel Wahid Al-Nur.

“We were able to stop their attack and force them to return back, after killing five and capturing other five members of the assailants” he said in a call by satellite phone on Tuesday from Darfur.

He also added they lost two of their fighters.

Yesterday in a briefing to the UN Security Council, the joint mediator for Darfur peace process called on the warranting parties to agree to a cessation of hostilities and to commit themselves to improve Darfur’s security situation.

Edmond Mulet, Assistant Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations, yesterday, informed the Security Council about the shaky security situation in the restive region.

He gave examples in southern Darfur, where Sudanese Liberation Army (SLA) from the Minni Minnawi faction (SLA/MM) attacked two villages, killing 11 people, and a few days later on 19 November 29 Sudanese soldiers were ambushed and killed, with both SLA/Abdul Shafie and SLA/Abdul Wahid fighters claiming responsibility.

Do not forget it’s within your rights to defend yourself and nobody can deny you that;and remember by killing Government soldiers and their militias you are definitely reducing the rifles of oppression. The same rifle that drove Halima,Adam and Sheikh Abaker from their villages to the IDPs and refugees camps.kill as much as you can until you kill no more, freedom can be attained not by negotiation but when your rifles speaks.Since the NCP is lacking the political will to stop it,then the only way that can bring your rights is to fight.
