Ethiopian Airlines sweeps five Awards in 2009

December 2, 2009 (ADDIS ABABA) — Flag carrier, the Ethiopian airlines wins “Airline of the year award” from the African airlines association (AFRAA), bringing the total Awards honored since January 2009 to five.

The award was presented at the 41st annual general assembly of African airlines association held during 22-24 Nov, 2009, in Maputo, Mozambique.

According to a source from the airlines, the latest honor was in recognition to its distinctive customer service, and to its exemplary provision of airline service to the African aviation industry.

After receiving the award from Mozambique transport Minister Paulo Zucula, Ethiopian airlines CEO, Girma wake said that the recognition to overall excellence of the airliner among other African airlines motivates and encourages the Ethiopian for a further commitment to meet needs of African aviation.

He further said the award is an acknowledgment of the airlines continued hard work and dedication to provide outstanding service to customers.

The 60-year old, Ethiopian airline is one of the largest and fastest booming airlines and provides service to 34 cities in Africa and to a total of 55 destinations across the world.

It has frequently been chosen as the best airliner in Africa. Since January 2009 alone it has received 4 significant awards besides the latest AFRAA’s.

In august last year, it won the 2008 corporate achievement award of aviation and allied business for setting the pace towards the development and growth of the African aviation industry.

It is also the first African carrier to win the 2008 Brussels airport company award in recognition of its distinguished long haul operations witnessed through the introduction of new routes, new products and close cooperation with Brussels airport in marketing activities.

Ethiopian airlines was also the winner of the 2008 best airline in Africa award at the African travel awards in Lagos, Nigeria, for its excellent network and convenient connections in Africa.
