By Philip Thon Aleu
December 2, 2009 (BOR) – Yak Deng and Deng Majok of White Cock football club scored twice each to defeat John Garang Institute players on Tuesday. The match that coincided with commemoration of World Aids Day was meant to show solidarity with and courage to the people living HIV/Aids virus, organizers say.
White Cock Football Club is a sport team for Twic East County youth association.
In a match they dominated, White Cock’s strikers scored two goals in the first. John Garang Institute’s midfielder Majok Ayuen scored the only controversial second half goal before the duo opponents doubled their tallies.
On this rough multipurpose Bor Town Freedom Square, where the football activities are also carried out, a player cannot display possible all skills. And for John Garang Institute players who do not have field of their own, it is even worse. The White Cock players – who are well vested with the holes all over the ground, exploit visitors’ inability to cope with unleveled ground.
Striker Yak Deng scored the 30th minute penalty before his colleague Deng Majok challenged John Garang Institute players with his fast moving strike five minutes before half time.
The disappointed players of home institution of higher learning return with promising momentum in second half. A short by the students’ midfielder Majok Ayuen was nearly saved by White Cock goalkeeper but referee John Ayor ruled in favor of John Garang team on ground that the keeper’s feet crossed the line into the net.
White Cock strikers scored another two goals just few minutes before the end of the match prompting protest from John Garang students who questioned referee competence. The students contested the penalty award that open victors’ hopes in the first half and the last two goals where John Garang defenders were well shielded from their goalpost by opponents.
However, audiences credit the referee for his accuracy by nullifying a long-strike White Cock goal that would have increased the tally beyond four scores. Micheal Dhiak, a local referee says Mr. John Ayor managed the match professionally and partially to disprove referee incompetence as claimed by defeat players.
John Garang institute strikers Lual Denis and Makwei Achol try to impress their fans but in vain. A winger substitute Kou Deng and midfielder John Kur Akuei make many crosses as possible but no way through.
The White Cock middle defender Garang Ador guard ball penetration jealously till the final whistle to jubilation of Twic East club players at 4-1 against John Garang Institute team.
And if John Garang players are hoping for success in future, spectators argued them to maintain particular players in a given position in the field and avoid massive chasing of ball. “Tell your players to make more practice” is what foot fans are telling them.
Kuir Ajak, the chairman of Twic East youth association and Majok Kuany, the association head of sport department congratulate their plays after the match.
Meanwhile, David Malual Wuor, the dean of students at John Garang Institute commended the peaceful atmosphere surrounding the exercise. Hiding any disappointment following the defeat, Mr. Wuor told the Sudan Tribune that the aim of the match is to depict peace and unity in Jonglei state.
He also indicates that the young people organized the match to coincide with International World Aids Day celebrations as a solidarity and support for the people living positively with HIV/Aids when asked to commend.
