Russia reiterates support to Sudan’s election
December 4, 2009 (KHARTOUM) — Russian special envoy on Friday reiterated full support of his country to the general election in Sudan stressing that Russia bears its responsibility towards social and economic development.
Mikhail Margelov, who is conducting a six day visit to Sudan, made his remarks during a visit to Kadoguli the capital of southern Kordofan.
Following a meeting with the state governor, Margelov said Russia is interested in the Sudanese issue and makes every effort to maintain the peace achieved in the country praising stability and the development of the state of South Kordofan
“The South Kordofan is an important state, as it is the basis for the unity of Sudan as a whole,” added the visiting envoy.
State Governor Ahmed Haroun said that Russia is a superpower and key world player. He further said that Sudan, with these outstanding relations, is expecting from Russia to play a major role in favor of stabilizing the situation in the country in all aspects.
He added that talks with the envoy included perspectives for Russian contribution in the development programmes in the state particularly in the areas of infrastructure and private sector investment.
He also praised the performance of Russia in the United Nations Mission in Sudan, especially in the field of aviation services, which represented significant support for the peacekeeping operation in the country.
Haroun reviewed the plans and programs Envoy government to establish security and promote unity and integration of parts of the state in addition to the projects being implemented in the state of infrastructure, particularly roads, which are currently being implemented along the 1084 km
Margelov is expected to visit Darfur and southern Sudan before to meet the Sudanese president in Khartoum at the end of his tour inside the country.
