Sudan opposition to stage mass protest amid government warning
December 5, 2009 (WASHINGTON) – The ruling National Congress Party (NCP) blasted opposition parties for planning a march in front of the Sudanese national assembly on Monday to protest delay in passing crucial laws including the national security and referendum bill.
The NCP and Sudan People Liberation Movement (SPLM) have failed to reach an agreement over the laws as both sides stuck to their positions despite mediation by the US special envoy Scott Gration.
The demonstration is expected to also include independent Sudanese figures and several NGO’s.
The bulk of the parties which signed up to take part in the rally include those which took part in the Juba conference last September hosted by SPLM.
A senior official at the NCP said on Friday that political forces “are entitled to engage in any manifestation that is in accordance with the laws to express their opinion”
However, Ibrahim Ghandour the NCP Secretary for Political Mobilization, stressed that “anyone who takes the initiative for any expression must take precautions in advance against any results that might affect the daily life of the citizens and against any other negative effects that might imperil their lives or properties”
He denounced calls by some parties for a march to the parliament and for boycotting it at the same time in reference to the SPLM bloc.
“We stress that some people who call for staging marches to parliament to pressure it into adopting some laws should remember that they are the same party that left its seats in parliament vacant rather than approve amendments to these laws,” he said. “It is regrettable that some try to be in the government while at the same time undertaking the role of opposition. It is clear that we have a long way ahead of us before we can reach rational political practices that protect Sudan’s security and stability”.
The SPLM Secretary General Pagan Amum said that Monday will be a “historical day for the start of mass popular movement for freedom”.
The Popular Congress Party (PCP) Secretary General Kamal Omer said that all preparations were made and that they have notified authorities on their plans but emphasized the “peaceful” nature of the demonstration.
Political tensions are running high Sudan primarily as the country approaches the April 2010 elections amid accusations by opposition parties of NCP attempts to defraud the process and as a political alliance is emerging against the ruling party likely to include the SPLM.

Give time to H.E Bashir,
I urge the opposition party to give him time he knows what is happening. Bashir is the President of Sudan and he has right to deal passing security and referendum bill.
SPLA, don’t hurry since there is no hurry in Africa why are behaving as if you are an angry lion??
If you fail to improve security in South Sudan surely that bill will not pass and that is the plan of H.E Bashir.

In the realty SPLM broken CPA already. If SPM has twenty-eight seats including V.P of government of Sudan. What let SPLM to include itself to go to street to march with opposition parties or be a part of coalition? What are you going to tell international about making coalition with those oppositions? Case of south or CPA it does not need SPM to make a coalition with other parties. just SPM need to follow what was written on CPA, and that’s it. Dr Trubi and Sadq Al-Mahdi will mess you up where SPLM will never have a chance to say word in front of world.
How come you join the loser who were defeated by Omar. Who is smarter? the loser or winner?.
SPLM should keep itself away from these parties.

Sudan Opposition parties are playing in the bygone time!
What are they gonna do since the dominant NCP is over control. Those traditional old leaders are out of date now. Sudan needs new bloods to run the promising future.
Statements by Mr pagan Amom or Sadeq Al-mahdi will add nothing but more fuel to inflaming political arena. Honest Action is needed from Honest Sudanese and capable leaders who can bring Sudan out of his current chronic AGONY and deterioration caused by the NCP.
