Kidnappers threaten to kill French aid workers if Paris refuses to negotiate
December 10, 2009 (PARIS) — An armed group from the restive region of Darfur said today they would give France one week adding they will kill one of the three French aid workers if Paris did not agree to negotiate with them.
The head of Freedom Eagles of Africa, Abu Mohamed Rizeigi, told the AFP on Thursday November 26, they are targeting French aid workers to force French government to change its policy in the region.
“We met today and decided that if France did not agree within a week to negotiate with us, we will kill one of the hostages in our custody,” Rizeigi told the Afence Francve Press today.
He further said that all the “hostages are in good health, and they are all in Chad.”
In statements to Al-Shrouq TV, the leader of the group slammed France for its support to the Chadian President Idriss Deby and for giving asylum to the rebel Sudan Liberation Movement leader Abdel Wahid Al-Nur.
He further warned they would attack the French diplomat and troops based in Chad.
On October 22, A French aid worker of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Gauthier Lefevre was abducted near El-Geneina the capital of western Darfur state. While, the two other aid workers were kidnapped in a separate attack in north-east of Central African Republic on November 22.
The group had already asked the ICRC to a ransom but the Red Cross refused it. Observers believe that they also want to force the French authorities to pay them money for the release of the hostage.

This group called “Freedom Eagles of Africa” are not from North Sudan.
They are the Chadian Rebels operated from Niger Group.

Sudan NCP regime has to be held accountable if any aid workers or peacekeepers are killed , otherwise they will continue to violate international obligations. They send armed men to kidnap workers and shoot peacekeepers, all inorder to spread fear and stop international community from doing their work in Darfur.
