Juba government calls on media to report on developmental issues
December 13,2009 (KHARTOUM)-The Juba based semi-autonomous government of South Sudan has called on media to increase efforts in reporting developmental issues.
“Notwithstanding the fact that government is ever coming up with plans and policies encouraging decentralized and equitable developmental initiatives in the regions, media concentrate on political events and humanitarian related issues,” said Georg Garang, undersecretary in the ministry of information and broadcasting service with the government of Southern Sudan.
There is a profound need for wider coverage of developmental plans and activities being implemented across the region, he adds.
The official who was speaking during a meeting with delegation of journalists from Eastern African countries, said government encourages involvement of its people in development programs through awareness and sensitization campaign with civil society organization and community activists.
“Therefore, since media is part and parcel of developmental agent being an instrumental organ, it is necessary they adequately cover developmental plans bringing real changes in the society,” he said.
This comes following myriad of allegations accusing government of Southern Sudan of having nothing to change the face of the war ravaged region which has twice witnessed civil wars with the last being described as one of the longest civil war on the continent of Africa
He said journalists both government and private concentrates reporting of the social issues in the society instead of concentrating on event reporting.
He stressed that journalists are concentrating on politics and events which do not reflect the real life of the southern people.
Assuring the government support to the media, he said, “we are focusing on enabling Southern journalists and free lances to concentrate reporting on social development issues in the society and we will support them with necessary media surveys funds and trainings.”

Good message to those of discriminating reporters Philip Thon and his counterpart manyang. Those two guys deserve to attend further training in journalism field. Most of the time they post rubbish about their own cultural activities in Bor. This is unwanted attitude, Vuni was last time doing a wonderful job of reporting the truth. Alots of things are happening in Juba but it is not appearing on this breeding site of Bor kids, no matter what the local radio will do better.
But this government of sick service need change, it is unacceptabel that a city should be without a reporter. It all comes from the start of threatening Vuni for reporting the evil culture. Sorry for this poor government of sick services for showing threat to the entire journalists in Juba and Greater Equatoria in particular. I know the plan was to keep us in dark so that looting and corruption can get out of hands in broad day light.

Yes the developmental issues need to be reported for public awareness,but the militray concerned must be private and it should not be exposed simply.
I am really concerned with the militray privacy,and the other issues should be exposed.
The militray issues in the South must be private to Southeners till we have concrete full self independent.

Larco Lamayat is self proclaimed to be a reporter,he normals reports on diaspora. if anyone don’t know his hyna face, please check him out here in Yambio. his reports are bias, he only aim at women, he is absolutely interesting in women. he reports every single females in South sudan. instead of saying they are doing good, he would go far by saying. she is beautiful and hard worker.
People must not act like Larco Lamayat for self benefit. dating girls must not be link to journalism.
