France and Egypt failed to agree on the invitation of Sudanese President to attend a summit with African nations that Paris planned to hold in the Egyptian Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh in February.

Paris showed its understanding to the Egyptian position to not transgress the African and Arab support to President Al-Bashir, saying it would organize this biennial meeting in France. European Union (EU) rules prohibit its members from engaging into contacts with an individual indicted by the ICC.

Welcoming the Egyptian decision to host the summit without President Al-Bashir who is wanted by the war crimes court in The Hague since last March, the Sudanese foreign ministry said “the stance of Egypt in this regard complies with the African and Arab positions” against the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Foreign ministry spokesperson Muawiya Osman Khalid condemned on Wednesday the “French irrational attitudes that throw rocks hinders the path of peaceful settlement in Darfur”. He also warned its negative impact would be extended to “Francophonie belt” in central and western Africa.

Khalid added that “France should realize that there are new partnerships in Africa, such as China, Africa, Russia, Africa, Latin America and Africa, which are far from all the colonial effects and promise to cause a genuine revival in Africa.”

President Mubarak and his French counterpart Nicolas Sarkozy agreed this Monday in a meeting held in Paris to move the summit venue to France after their failure to reach an agreement on Bashir presence at the summit.

Paris proposed a compromise in which the summit would be split in two parts, first at the ministerial level, focused on discussing economic issues with the absence of French officials, followed by a meeting of heads of state to which the Sudanese president would not be invited.

But Egypt has rejected the proposal pushing the disagreement to the meeting between Sarkozy and Mubarak which took place in Paris today.

    God be with France.

If the new partnerships in Africa, such as China, Africa, Russia, Africa, Latin America and Africa is to protect genocide criminals why Bashir couldn’t travel to Venzuela and to Turkey? Both countries are not European countries.

Africans should reject any Colonial attitude and policies from European countries towards them, be it France or any other, countries have to work on respect and equal standing. however Omer bashir has to be accountable for his crimes and go to ICC, true war crimes have happen in Darfur.
